Re: Roll Call 2014 21-22 June, Cranfield

by madaxeman » Tue Jun 24, 2014 11:01 pm So, how was it for the 25mm players then? Hi Tim, First time I'd played this year for a variety of (very tardy) reasons. Had four thoroughly enjoyable games (thanks guys.) Predictably indifferent results, my half-baked theory that most opponents can deal wit...

Admittedly it was in 25mm where heavy infantry enemies are probably the norm, but I've had a bit of success with an early Swiss army with no pikes, just halberiers, a few LF filler BGs, and cunning use of impassable and/or difficult terrain. The halberdiers are very resilient, especially if the crit...

Nik, "The more I think on this the more I prefer the idea that if you can't interpenetrate fully then you can't at all." You need to be mindful of 25mm, which has a completely different relationship between bases sizes and move distances. Zero tolerance would prevent two ranks of English b...

Poor Troops

Has anyone experimented with using significant numbers of Poor troops in the battle line rather than just as extra "filler"or fringe BGs? My (crazy?) thinking is that the maximum benefit comes where the troops already had a pretty low points value anyway, thus maximising the additional poi...

Players/Clubs in South West Wales?

Hiya Folks, Sylvie and I are moving to Carmarthen this summer for at least three years .... are there any FOG friendly clubs or players in those parts?

Richard, does the Newport club still meet? (I have a hunch that might turn out to be one of the nearest?)

Cheers, Ian.

I'd say go for something more rounded .... Rationale .... As Graham says, horse archers are flexible and you can get yourself out of your self-inflected problems easily, but your tactics are broadly the same against most opponents, and the tactics of most opponents are broadly the same aginst you, a...

As for Richard's last game, poor Ian and Silvie never stoof a chance, unprotected MF against decent Persinan bow :( Although a couple of times the unprotected MF made it through the shooting, but even when we got there we were on even POAs against the spear wielding Immortals who had extra dice for...

Hiya John, So .... The Pikes get the best of it three times from four, so presumably the El are in with a shout once from four .... Intuitively (well, my intuition anyway, which might be flawed), that doesn't sound so unreasonable, even in the Hydaspes example, the Elephants did still lose? FWIW, I ...

Yep, I regularly use a TC and IC as Roger describes with my Swiss halberiers, especially when they have to absorb a tough impact from Kn or Pike .... The IC is also useful when testing for the TC's early death in the front rank .... :-)

Hammy,

I usually find LF in 8s take too much floor-space and I finish up dropping a file or two back to get a tighter wheel and so on .... why 8s, to increase resilience to other shooting skirmishers?

For me .... I generally think themes are a good thing .... And the approach to the FOG army lists is more theme friendly than in the older rulesets .... But .... The cost and time of getting 25mm armies up and running is such that folks generally have less 25mm armies than 15mm armies, and the lead-...
