You need to be mindful of 25mm, which has a completely different relationship between bases sizes and move distances.

Zero tolerance would prevent two ranks of English billmen ...

Has anyone experimented with using significant numbers of Poor troops in the battle line rather than just as extra "filler"or fringe BGs?

My (crazy?) thinking is that the maximum benefit comes where the troops already had a pretty low points value anyway, thus maximising the additional points ...

Well, if it's unprotected HF Offensive Spearmen you want, try Feudal Scots, 32-142 of them in BGs of 6-10 ....

I'd say go for something more rounded .... Rationale .... As Graham says, horse archers are flexible and you can get yourself out of your self-inflected problems easily, but your tactics are broadly the same against most opponents, and the tactics of most opponents are broadly the same aginst you ...

So .... The Pikes get the best of it three times from four, so presumably the El are in with a shout once from four .... Intuitively (well, my intuition anyway, which might be flawed), that doesn't sound so unreasonable, even in the Hydaspes example, the Elephants did still lose?

Yep, I regularly use a TC and IC as Roger describes with my Swiss halberiers, especially when they have to absorb a tough impact from Kn or Pike .... The IC is also useful when testing for the TC's early death in the front rank ....

I usually find LF in 8s take too much floor-space and I finish up dropping a file or two back to get a tighter wheel and so on .... why 8s, to increase resilience to other shooting skirmishers?

We know that you are (rightly) resistent to changing the rules in the short or medium term .... but what is your thinking on changing a list if one or more armies (not necessarily Dominate Romans) eventually turns out to be regularly run in an unexpected format and as a result upsets ...
