Use of Generals
Hey all,
I'm pretty sure I'm doing nothing wrong, but I've had a couple of comments made to me in the past about my use of Generals.
I routinely use an Inspirational General in my armies, however dislike having him tied into a combat so very rarely will put him into the front rank of a fight.
In the rare circumstances that I really want to increase the chances of a BG I will attach an IC to the BG (not front rank) to bolster morale when he can, and additionally I may put a TC into the front rankt to fight to improve the combat capability (average to superior).
It's a LOT of points I'm adding to one particular point in the combat, and I see nothing against the rules in what I'm doing. I'm not trying to get + for morale for General & + for morale for ANOTHER General, I'm using two Generals for two explicit purposes.
I can see one side of the argument saying 'the troops wouldn't know who's in command', but I don't think that's true. It would be something like "Olaf is brave, and fighting with us and LOOK men there is the Raven Banner, don't give up."
Opinions appreciated.

well depending on where you live I guess its a free world so if you want to do that its your choice. Sounds a lot like putting all your eggs in one basket but there is no where in the rules that says you can't have 2 generals in the same battle group like you do. Just keep in mind that allied generals can only be used with their own troops, so you can't stack them up with an allied contingent.
If it works for you go for it. My guess is anyone who complains never thougth of it themselves and hates to be out-thought.

Well, it's getting the extra plus for the IC, but not risking him being locked into combat. You see, I might put him in and the combat last for 4 turns during which time I would have liked to have moved him to another location because things are going bad there.

I was that culprit. It was used against me in the Challenge event this weekend.
I've also done the same thing whilst playing Richard Bodley Scott and he was very comfortable that the rules allow it. It is very expensive in terms of AP but worth it if it gets the right result.
The worst case scenario of course is that your BG gets trashed, your TC dies in combat and then your IC then gets killed in the rout/pursuit that follows!

Yes this is legal.
In fact I think at the Battle Of Indus Ghengis Khan rode from centre to left with his guard cavalry and supported the leader of that wing as they went into combat.
Not perhaps exactly the siutation you are trying but may well have been if we had a video of the real battle. IC with a BG with TC in combat seems a decent variant that may cover it.
I have done it too by the way.
