Britcon 25mm

Post by nikgaukroger »

It has been suggested that the 25mm FoG at Britcon should be themed rather than open as it was last year, and is at the BHGS Challenge.

We'd appreciate the thoughts of players who may be considering playing 25mm at Britcon on whether this would be a good idea and how the players would take it and, indeed, if it might affect attendance.

I was planning on entering 28mm fog.............. i am personally not bothered if its themed or not........... probably prefer not themed as there may be a greater variety of armies.

If it is themed, then its storm of arrows for me as thats the army I am painting up for it.

cheers

I have a few 25mm Armies all out of Storm of Arrows and played at the last Roll Call but if events were themed it would effect the turn out I think. Taking the numbers for Challenge 2008 41 Players 15mm.. 10 players 25mm, Britcon 62 players 15mm.. 10 players 25mm. Taking the 10 as a rough measure how many of those people would have different armies, or would be willing to change I don't think changing 25mm to a themed event like 15mm would add numbers to 25mm enteries it would i think lose them. I hold my hands up I have played more 15mm games but that might be the fact I can get a 15mm game every week. The cost of collecting loads of 25mm armies is just too expensive compared to the smaller scale. I just think it should'nt be made any harder to enter a 25mm event. Just my idea and who am i to say.

For me ....

I generally think themes are a good thing .... And the approach to the FOG army lists is more theme friendly than in the older rulesets ....

But .... The cost and time of getting 25mm armies up and running is such that folks generally have less 25mm armies than 15mm armies, and the lead-time if a tight theme were announced now is such that there probably isn't time to prepare for this year .... and 25mm players are generally keener to use the right figures, so won't make do with old kingdom egyptian archers for new kingdom egyptian archers, or bow cases the wrong way around, or whatever ....

My suggestion .... If Britcon goes themed, offer two wide 25mm periods covering all of the books so far, one (say) pre-fall of Rome, one post-fall of Rome .... That way anyone with just a single 25mm army can still enter .... And if the number of entries in either theme falls below the threshold for a credible competition, then merge the two back together again ....

Oh .... and then maybe poll folks over the Britcon weekend and establish the 2010 25mm theme(s) so folks have 12 months to prepare for next year .... I'll help with that if you like ....

Cheers, Ian.

I am toying with the idea of trying 25mm at Britcon - and I've painted 2 boxes of Wargames Factory LRR thus far.

I have no strong preference but if there's no opportunity for LRR then I'll be playing 15mm.

I would love to see the American lists in 25mm. I'd only be looking, but it would look good. There were some beautiful armies last year.

There wouldn't be many entries though I suspect :(
