Reading the rulebook, I reckon Hazelbark is right and fragmented lancer CV in a single rank that pass the test for being charged can evade rather than stand and fight! Worth remembering, to try to save the odd attrition point?

In general I think Hammy is right and these 3rd rank LF are best left where they are "supposed" to be. I have occasionally used them as shooters by expanding them onto a flank of an HF/MF BG, esp into terrain, but you have to be careful the BG doesn't get charged while they are still in that ...

I think what you told your opponent was 100% right on the two grounds you mention ... you have to charge enemy troops to attempt to contact them except if it's a corner to corner overlap contact (as in the case of your companions) and light foot can't charge unbroken non-skirmishers!

When troops are disordered, the command and control system has been compromised so they are less likely to obey orders. Maybe got fed up with being shot at and wanted ...

I'M fairly sure these early Islemen and Highlanders would be speaking the Gaelic language. It doesn't sound too romantic to the untutored ear but you can try a listen for yourself as there is both a radio station or two and the tv channel BBC Alba that broadcasts in Gaelic.

Yes it is ... any rank after the first can have the same number of or fewer bases than the rank in front of it.

Completely agree with DaiSho re the FC and the Thorakitai! The FC brings no significant benefit and I think the Seleucids benefit from having a low PBI so they get first(double) move.

I try to couple the thorakitai with some thracians as 2 x tough MF bgs working together can secure flank-placed ...

I think you are right Mario, not the finest day for the Italians! Wasn't it at this battle the Italian men at arms tried to cross a frozen river to attack a French column and got so disordered that they were rather easy pickings for the invaders!
