Yes it is ... any rank after the first can have the same number of or fewer bases than the rank in front of it.

It is legal, but contrary to the above all ranks must have an even number of bases, except the rear rank which may have fewer. Where you put these bases in the rear rank is up to you.


even number of bases should read EQUAL

Phil,

I know all BG's must have an even number of bases.
Can you reference a page number that states all ranks must have "even" number of bases.
I thought they must have "Equal" number of bases (except for the last) Not the same as "even"

still ok. The rear rank can put the unequal bases anywhere in the rank. In fact deciding which bases to lose can be very important if in combat
