Anyone have favourite BG combinations that tend to work well together as a 2 or 3 BG group?
Mine:
1. Ancient Spanish Celtiberian HF 10pak with a drilled MF 4pak on either side.
2. 4paks of Roman superior HF together + some LF BG out front.
3. 6pak of Dacian sup MF HW + 8pak MF + 6pak MF bows.
4. two 6paks of MF OSpears + 4pak Cretan sup archers.
Particular targets?

2 BGs of elephants with a BG of 8 MF bow swordsmen on the flanks. Oops. That's four BGs.
2 BGs of 8 HF superior pike with a BG of 4 LF handgunners in front. Add a BG of 4 HF superior HW behind for rear support.
2 BGs of 4 average armored Cav, Xbow, swordsman, backed up by a 4 pack of Superior knights.

I haven't done this yet, but I think Impact Foot beside Pike.Blathergut wrote:Anyone have favourite BG combinations that tend to work well together as a 2 or 3 BG group?

Hopefully you'll get the same BG with both the pike and the Impact foot, and thus when the enemy lose they take an additional - for 'losing against Impact foot'. If they somehow don't lose then the pike have the staying power that the impact foot tend to not have.
Another combo I like is:
LH and/or Cavalry in a single rank beside Cataphracts/Knights/Heavy Chariots. You charge the enemy skirmishers with both, and they have to run from the heavier troops but get caught in the rear by your other troops.
Worked really well with the SAKA on one occasion.

In the Early Persians I like 3 BGs of armoured hoplites next to 2 BGs of armoured Immortals with the immortals facing brush or similar. The hoplites deploy early and enemy put tough stuff against them. Then the put toughish MF in the brush and the Immortals go in against them. 4 generals fighting and that's a very tough combo to beat.
