Evading sort of shock troops

Post by hazelbark »

It almost came up, but noticed the following and curious if intended.

(This is truely trivial)

Superior CV lancers are shock troops.

They attack fall down to Frag and break off. They have taken losses so they are now 1 deep.

One of the effects of being frag'd is that "shock troops are no longer so"

So if they are charged and pass their CT for being charged while frag'd can they evade?

They are now non-shock cavalry one deep.

Good spot, I can't see anything that would contradict that.

Perhaps we need a special prize for the first person to pull it off in a reall game.

I think I still prefer the non impetuous scythed chariots in another game system.

IIRC this was noted during development but, on the basis that they'll usually end up breaking from being charged whilst Fraged, it wasn't worth legislating against - plus it is a reasonable behaviour when they're that nervous.

So we are agreed that playing literally it can evade.

Like i said it is trivial.

Reading the rulebook, I reckon Hazelbark is right and fragmented lancer CV in a single rank that pass the test for being charged can evade rather than stand and fight! Worth remembering, to try to save the odd attrition point?

I am willing to offer a free beer to the first person to actually pull it off in a tournament.

I'm disappointed in your hammy. By now I'd have expected statistical analysis.

What I want is the chances of a BG of 6 Cav/Armoured/Superior/-/Lance/Sword charging into a BG of 8 MF/Protected/Average/-/Offensive Spearmen/- with the following result:

- 3 Cav die.
- Cav go fragmented
- Spear Charge
- Cav pass cohesion for being charged whilst fragmented and thus evade.

That would be something to see :)

I'd probably any of my gaming buddies a beer if they could even pull it off in a non-tourney game

Even wierder:

Heavily armoured camels move as Ct, not Cv. But the list of those who can evade explicitly includes non-shock camelry. So cataphract camels can evade, provided they are not shock troops. Which they are not if fragmented.

Best wishes,

Blimey  that would be worth 2 beers at least plus all the beers you could get from retelling the tale in the bar for the next year or three.
