Clarifying the rear support question a little further, you can even support 2 BG's each with 12 bases with a single BG of only 6 bases by having the supporting unit in a column straddling the line between the 2 supported BG's.
Cheers!

Thanks so much for your comments, guys. Re: MF Hoplites, I completely agree! Great suggestion. Re: 8/12's vs. 10's, in my experience when up against tough foot opponents (Impact Foot or Armored/Heavy Weapon), I tend to lose a base and then it's downhill from their without getting the 2nd POA. road & +1 MU rule???
I'm confused with the rule regarding roads presented on p. 41. Specifically, it states... "Troops in column move at +1 MU along roads or through any terrain if the indicated move distance is less than their move distance in open terrain." Okay, so their are two ways to interpret the "...

Artillery & Cohesion Tests
Suppose I have 4 light artillery shooting at a 8-base unit. I score 4 hits. Does this qualify for the "more than 1 reason to test" since I inflicted both 2 shooting hits from artillery & 1 HP3B? If this is the case, then the modifier to the cohesion test for the above example would be ...

I don't have the list handy, but my initial reactions are as follows: * I much prefer 8 bases rather than 6 for your longbowmen. They are a little more durable that way. But more importantly, they can concentrate more firepower on the enemy (remember that 2nd rank bases only get 1 shot for every two...

Mixed BG's & Front-rank Casualties
(I did a forum search and did not find the answer to the following:) Suppose I have a Danish Select Levy (Mixed BG of Heavy Weapon & Crossbow/Swordsmen). And further suppose that in the front rank I also have a mix of troops. When removing bases can I choose whether to remove a heavy weapon or s...

A variation on the above question which came up in a game of mine last night. Suppose a commander is fighting from the front rank and his BG breaks. There is a friendly BG within 3 MU's which must now make a cohesion test for seeing its friends break. Appendix 8 shows that this test occurs after pos...

One of the Osprey books suggest that companions wore yellow cloaks with a lilac border whereas the elite unites (agema?) reversed that with lilac cloaks and a yellow border. So that is one way I suppose I could differentiate. However, does anyone know if the jaguar saddle cloth was also a mark of di...

Alexander's Artillery
Has anyone put Alexander's artillery to effective use? It seems to me that without field fortifications, one would have to devote a unit of infantry to protect it, and with only 2 Art available, it seems that not enough dice would be generated to make a real difference.
Thoughts?

Xyston Agema vs. Companions
Hi all, I am soliciting ideas on how to differentiate between my BG of Alexander's Agema vs. the mounted Companions while using the Xyston miniatures. One idea I had was to use the horses with the jaguar saddle blankets for the Agema and the ones with the cloth blankets for the companions. However, ...

Thanks Hammy for the picture to clarify how a 6 element BG can support 2 8 element BG's. My approach would have actually been simpler. Instead of having 2 files x 3 ranks (as you have drawn), I was considering 3 files x 2 ranks. Then I can have them facing directly forward and still support both 8-B...

Sp rear supporting Pk (best practices?)
Hi all! Question #1: I want to rear support my 2 BG's of 8 Pk with my 1 BG of 6 Sp. I also want to avoid loss of cohesion to the Sp if the Pk rout. I know I can easily do this if I keep the 6 Sp in a column, but is there a way to do it having the Sp with a frontage of 3? I know I can rear support bo...
