Mixed BG's & Front-rank Casualties

(I did a forum search and did not find the answer to the following:)

Suppose I have a Danish Select Levy (Mixed BG of Heavy Weapon & Crossbow/Swordsmen). And further suppose that in the front rank I also have a mix of troops.

When removing bases can I choose whether to remove a heavy weapon or swordsmen base?

For example, if I am fighting against steady Sp and have 3 heavy foot plus 1 swordsman in the front rank, I would much rather lose the swordsman than the heavy foot.

In that case, your choice of front rankers facing the enemy.

Somtimes.
You have to remove a base fighting the BG that did the most damage, so if you are fighting more than 1 BG you might not get a choice of the swordsman. If you have more than one base fighting that BG then you can choose which base to loose.
