Format of the supplement books will be tricky. If you do a by campaign year style supplement, then you will have key information about both large and small countries spread over several books. I would prefer a country oriented supplement style with all the years for a single country in the same book...

Thanks Andy1972 for mentioning my rules. I enjoyed designing the gold edition of 'Guard du Corp' in 1979-81. Unfortunately the publisher butchered the red box tournament edition. His edits and misprints made it almost impossible to follow. I will follow this Beta design phase with interest and contr...

An arbitary start and end date is needed for several reasons. In rule mechanics the dates will limit the introduction of weapons or fighting styles. In regards to Army list building it is needed to allow competitive armies from the same and different eras. You also meed these dates to know who or wh...

A lot of armies preform based on the personality of the gamer who is controling them. Some players have certain armies that they feel more comfortable with than others. There is one guy in Birmingham Alabama USA who has won several DBM tournaments with a Numidian army. Since that group has shifted t...

As a person with a Military Science degree (not just military history though it includes that as well.), the logic used by Possum is not valid. Tactically, the 20th century concept of ambush in rough terrain would be valid for small groups even in Ancient times. But with the Fields of Glory system, ...

It would be nice to be alble to construct list troop options based on the available castings by manufacturers but that is not realistic. Companies are expected to produce masters based on cited works. I can remember back in the 1970s and 1980s when a new popular set of Ancient rules would be release...

Being worth it for game purposes is a different issue than their being allowed in the army lists due to tactical doctrine by that nation. I tend to feild formations that best represent historical forces. Just my preference. I play an army due to historical preference and interest rather than being a...

I am not sure how common elephants were in the northern mountains of India. DBA does not allow them. In DBM none are required but a max of 2 allowed. So I was not surprised to see the Mtn Indian Ally list without elephants as an option.

I am in the middle of discussions with my sculptor on whether to sculpt PRE-Samurai japanese or PRE-Columbus American Indians which fought mainly on foot.

So the discussion here on possible troop types are very interesting.

The ability to smash the enemy to gain max points, is a valid concern for tournaments. In the USA the difference between the top players in the final round and mid-ranked players is often the severity of victory to get the most points for wins. At the New Orleans show last month, one of the comments...

Nik, I took out defender which I had edited it into the statement to imply actions by the the 'other player'. So I used the wrong wording.

Nik, so you are saying that there is no need for Huns to have foot troops? Ever?

The choice of not fielding Light Foot or mobs is, of course up to player, but based on terrain possibilities which is influenced by factors outside the Hun player's control such as the die roll. So if you are honing for a tournament, in my opinion, it would be more effective to prepare two or three ...

By early Arabs, I assume that you mean pre-Islamic Arabs.

Would a list not most likely be found in a Chariot-Biblical era supplement? It seems that is the case in DBM.

A very good list but I can see some modifications after the WRG A&E book and other books are checked. Maybe the Quiver carriers and javelinment/ 'Elite LF' can have a MF option as well. The Close Fighteres rated as Swordsmen ? Because DBM has them fighting mainly with sideweapons of the kopesh s...

In regards to the Khitans, I would imagine that a choice in BGs sizes as you mentioned should be part of it. Whether it is 4-6 or 4-8 as both could be possible. because of the use of shields, most mounted troop types may be protected with some Unarmored LH and Armoured heavy cavalry as options as we...
