Re: Standard Wagon needs buff
How much do they increase the unit cap? I haven't had one die yet to try to work it out by hand (nor enough want yet to calculate from one lost unit). They do cost about the same as 5 peasants. And hiding peasants in the woods somewhere seems to have the same effect (padding out the rout percentage)...

Yeah, I'll keep an eye on it, just thought I'd report a 1 in 10,000,000 case. If I see something like that again I'll get you a full results log and statistical analysis.

Wildly Improbable Results
Hello, I just had a custom game vs AI, Normans vs 1066 English, Northern European Agricultural map type, 1200 vs 1200 match (custom set for trying out things) And none of either side's units would break from fragmented due to losing melee (or losing impact, but that happened less). Everyone, includi...

Re: Differences between FoG2 and Medieval.
In terms of game mechanics, knightly lancers being added and the archery table POAs being reworked are the main mechanical changes that I could see. @RBS: I like to memorise the charts when I can because it allows me to plan ahead and make snap calculations, but I can't really make sense of the numb...

Re: Question about pike POA
I don't mean to say that you need to bring in good data, but that if you are going to bring in data, the data itself should be complete. If you bring in POA, but then hand wave the combat strength, then your data is bringing in a lot of noise, but very little signal, because combat strength is very ...

Re: Do engaged defending units countercharge?
Yes they do. Being in combat does not negate defensive impact POAs that are assumed to be due to counter charging (lancer cav, for example, do not lose their impact POA)

Re: Question about pike POA
@GamerMan You can just look at OP and you can see that at 616/921 the Pike base POA for both impact and melee is at 67. I just tested the pikes to be sure and the base POA starts degrading around 727/979 or 75% strength, right after the deep pike POA is gone. Swordsmen on the other hand never lose ...

Re: Question about pike POA
Ummmm, what do you mean the usual loss of POA from casualties? Pikes losing POA due to casualties is almost totally unique to them (warbands have that tiny 10 POA thing that also goes away). If you are talking about combat effectiveness, they don't lose that until they fall under 480, so they take P...

Re: Force Points difference Player VS Computer
or more accurately, the values for auto are 105%, 95%, 85%, 75%. then if you choose default troop selection instead of auto, you get 95% of that value. Not a huge difference, but it will make your chart more accurate

Re: Unit Quality vs. Armour
1. So Armour and quality roughly get priced the same as one another, an average armoured and a superior protected troop being usually the same price. But when you compare the two: Quality has an effect on impact, melee, shooting, and morale checks. Where armour has an effect only on melee and being ...

Re: Match ups in large battles vs medium battles
I imagine large battles would help the dominant army, just because there is random variance, and the larger the battle, the more the variance balances out. It would also help the stronger player, since bad luck is less likely to cost them the game as well.

Re: Your experiences in the Kushan/Indo-Greek match in the Christmas tournament
Thank you for putting the picture together, that should make my post easier to read. Obviously the rules are clear, but it is hard to justify conceptually. What is the screening archer doing that is stopping the cats from progressing without putting themselves in any danger? How are they intimidatin...

Re: Your experiences in the Kushan/Indo-Greek match in the Christmas tournament
Well, to stick with my more narrow example. in your picture, replace the lancer with a Cat, and move it one back. Now, the Cat can run forwards 2 squares, it can't charge the archer with its back turned (not priority), and it can't charge the unit laying down a blocking ZoC (half a square too far aw...

Re: Your experiences in the Kushan/Indo-Greek match in the Christmas tournament
I wasn't in the tournament, but one thing that has always bugged me, especially for Cataphracts, is the following situation: Cats are 3 away from archers, facing towards them. If the archer 3 spots straight ahead faced the cat, the cat can charge him. However, if the archer 3 spots straight ahead tu...

Re: I've struggled hard to like this game...
Would it be possible/worth doing to change the cohesion notification that pops up for units? Perhaps the holds steady note, when the game reuses the same die, could say "no change" or something. Not sure how much more clear it would be, but i don't imagine it would hurt

Re: Why is pike POA dependent on casualties?
actual numbers. the pike lost 113/240 men in the back row 47POA. They have 153POA remaining. they still have 480 man frontage. hoplites have a frontage of 344 men. Overlap is cut in half. So that line is the performance for 412 pikes at a 53 POA advantage vs 344 hoplites. The impact example is 53POA...

quick test 10 trials each: 960/960 pike vs 485 mercenary hoplites. 50.5% win, 49% draw, 1% loss 907/960 (yes, the starting amount matters for pike POAs) vs 427 O.Spears. Re: Why is pike POA dependent on casualties?
Most foot has 100 POA in melee. Pike has more than 100. It is already good at melee (if steady). There should exist some mechanic to gradually reduce it's melee bonus. Always maintaining 200 POA is too much. Yeah but they lose their POA too easily. If I remember correctly 100 POA is lost with the 4...
