Do engaged defending units countercharge?

Post by ShadowNDust »

Apologies if this was addressed already. Do engaged troops countercharge additional impacts? IE is the engaged defender's impact POA used on any additional attackers? Any help is appreciated. :)

Yes they do. Being in combat does not negate defensive impact POAs that are assumed to be due to counter charging (lancer cav, for example, do not lose their impact POA)

It may not seem logical, but it is intended to prevent various gamey attack sequencing ploys that were not genuine historical tactics.

Logically, if the new unit can contact the unit, there must be part of the unit whose front is open to being contacted, and that part of the unit can countercharge a short distance.

However, the main reason is to prevent gamey tactics, and minimise the artificiality of the IGOUGO system.

Hence units use the same Impact POAs whether or not they are already in combat with another enemy unit.
