15mm Donnington and Lancashire horses

Looking at Louis 14 and wondering if the cavalry from these ranges will mix. The infantry look like they go well.

Dragoons v Light Horse

I had to do shooting and close combat between two units yesterday.

Light Horse get the reductions in number of dice, but Dragoons do not?

Re: Southern League Southampton Round

I really appreciate your willingness to lend me an army, unfortunately I'm not going to be making the day. I hope it goes well, promise of spectacular clashes.

One place up for grabs (or is it two?)

Thanks,
Bevan

Re: good historical asymmetric pairings

All those suggestions sound good; do the armies give 50/50 battles under FoGR, or does one army always struggle? E.g. in ancients Romans and Parthians are very different but its not much fun being a Roman Infantry army.
Happy with suggestions for FoGR not including P&S Too.

good historical asymmetric pairings

I love the pike and shot era - but a lot of battles are between fairly similar armies.

Which historical matchups would you recommend that give a good fight between different styles of army?
So not one where the difference is a big inbuilt superiority.

Re: Southern League 2013

Thank you everyone and especially Bob for lending me the army and my opponents Alasdair, Andy and Don for the games and giving me help with the rules. Alasdair is my favourite opponent as I've had my career best result against him (bet there's not many people that can say that!)

Re: UK Tournaments 2013

How exactly do doubles work? 2 players for a single 900 pt army?

Thanks Bevan

Re: Flodden Field

Lucky we decided on something else then - we were going to do Flodden in 28mm with Impetus, but decided on 15mm Peninsula war instead. We were a tad short on pikes, 2 bases for the Scots army really wasn't going to cut it. I sympathise with your pile of painting...

Re: Southern League 2013

Does anyone have spare armies for this period? Ideally ones that are invincible in the hands of a tactically naive, inexperienced and chronically unlucky general? :)

strict figures per base for tournaments?

Can I play in tournaments if I base up my armies with one fewer figures per base?
e.g. Pikes and Shot 3/base, Cavalry 2/base, Light Cavalry 1/base

Thanks,
Bevan

Re: 2013 League

I would be interested in the Oxford League (I'm in Didcot) but don't yet have an army.

Re: Tournament Themes

I like the idea of combined campaign and tournament, do you know how it was done in detail?

I did a tournament last year based on duplicate bridge methods and scoring, well recieved but a major pain to organise all the armies and battlefields

FoGR - a new player's perspective

I'm hoping that this post will generate discussion about promoting FoGR. FoGR is a great game to play, the more I play the more I enjoy it. I got started by watching a game at the Central London Wargamers, it played fast, looked and felt like a renaissance game. I had to tie in what I saw to being p...
