I think that it makes no difference whether the LH contact the flank or front of a enemy battle group.
In both situations the LH stop 1 MU away of the enemy CV. (page 108, right column).

The battle group X have declared a charge on a light infantry battle group (A1 & A2). The LI makes a evade move, but this movement ended up in a partial interpenetration of battle group B.

The two bases in A1 are contacted on the rear edge ...

2ª.- Según en la página 76-77 del reglamento, un BattleGroup en posición de Overlap puede contactar con el flanco a un BattleGroup enemigo en la fase de maniobra (no se considera carga de flanco, pero tiene algunas similitudes).

Rulebook, page 45:

When a mixed battle group turns, its new front edge must, if possible, consist of the same base types as the old front edge. Bases are simply relocated to achieve this.
