Re: Generals (and their ratings)

Hi there I don't understand why it's such a part of Naps rules culture that there be a rating system for generals. The vast majority of rules attempt it. I reckon players are good enough to provide the brilliance, stupidity, indecission or rashness to colour their games. I'd shunt the concept off to...

Re: First Comp suggestions

Organisers should aim for 75% completed games in 3-4 hour games of whatever rules.

Drop the points, allow more time, pre-set terrain, allow closer set-up, whatever it takes.

I ran DBM comps for many years at 350-330AP to get people off the drug of too many points.

HI there, Terry said, >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>><snip> 1) Scale of game. We had many a discussion (read argument) about this at an early stage - since the decision was critical to the design. I'm not sure how much I'm allowed to say prior to Beta but I can say that the smallest 'unit' on the table wi...

Hi there, I think I successfully got the computer to apply to play-test last night. I hope these rules do well, I have masses of troops with muskets that gave been gathering dust for years, for want of a good set of rules that attracts players. As I posted someplace else, I hope the rules use a larg...

Good luck with this lot.

I'd like to see a Nappy rules set that sweeps all before it and becomes broadly accepted, ie I can get games in regional Australia.

Why not extend it earlier to 1700ish (end of most pikes) and forward to 1850ish (pre Minie)?

(Yes I have a 7yw army)

HI there,

I think the FOG mechanisms are, if anything, better for Horse and Musket to ACW than ancients.

I'd suggest the rulesgivers, if they are contemplating another period, to get into Horse and Musket where a blockbuster set of rules and lists would be a good thing.

The Persians met Ionians in the 540s with the conquest of Lydia and Asia-minor. And after the conquest of Egypt in the 520s, the Ionian and Carian garrisons there were taken over as going concerns by the Persians, and Carian exile communities appear in Babylon early on. I think there are other Persa...

A number of companies offer army sets to fit various rules or just as starters - i guess it's a matter of conecting their information to the potential player of the rules in question.

Some fan web-sited of various rules publish a list of such suppliers.

Hi there,

Encouraging thoughts, I'm loking forward to putting some more effort into the rules as opportunity allows.

It's the nature of cheese that it's not obvious - often found by accident and remembered for later use.

Hi there,

If you want 3 games a day (something I advocate strongly) you really have to set the games at 2hours max. You need to leave lunch breaks, dead time for packing up armies and umpires doing draws and general admin.

Believe me, the fantasy lobby is pretty good at debating lists too - i've had all sorts of arguments over the proper classification of Middle-earth orcs in my home-bake lists.

And knights of Dol Amroth, and Uruk-hai, and Ents......

The problem with the proposed way of showing troop state is that it's the same as 7th, which evrybody ignored because it's just not clear enough. Is that unit disordered or just bumped out of line? In 7th players went to counters which are unambiguous - I'll watch the warrior players using them at a...

Hi there

Can the rulesgivers knock up a sequence of play to help testers - showing where it's just the phasing player doing things and where it's both players.

I think I can see what's intended, but should i get it wrong any test game will be of little value.

Hi there, AOW – initial comments Design Philosophy page-3 “…fast moving game…” Time will tell, but there is a lot a player decisions and chrome and steps to get from A to B – I suspect it will play like 7th ed. Units will probably fight and die where they first hit the enemy and probably won’t have ...
