Thanks a lot for all the answers... I don't think, I will buy the minis... :( the mentioned spanish armies cannot take halberdiers and not 8 crossbow LC. And the basing of the minis is a bit strange, the HI is based 18mm deep in 6 cases, 15 in the others... It is still a beautiful painted army. But ...

Which medieval army is it?

Hello, perhaps I can get the following medieval miniatures, nicely painted. 12 bases of knights 8 bases of light cavalry with crossbows 12 bases of spearmen (tear formed shields) 8 bases of halberdiers 8 bases of crossbowmen foot At the first look I thougt, hey, there are a couple of medieval armies...

Thanks for the answers so far... The subject was badly formulated, I didn't mean it as a match up between pikes and spears but thought about the overall pros and cons of the units... But from your answers I see already, that the wider frontage of the 6 base spear unit is a much bigger advantage than...

My main question is, if the cats can see the enemy throught the screen of skirmishers? Can I see through my own troops?

Do you have to see an enemy to charge it at all? And what circumstances block a line of sight?

Thanks for you patience...

Shocktroops breaking through own units

Not sure, if it was asked before... In the chapter with the general rules for movement is an example for 3 bg's of cataphracts testing not to charge enemy units. (sorry for not giving a page, I have the german book, here it is on page 49) The cats in the middle fail the test and break through...

Impact and combat: So long as there are no losses, the pikes are one + up against most opponents, two ++ if charging in the impact. Losses let the pikes loose one of the + really fast. But if the spears loose, they are loosing the advantage of being in two ranks (assuming they are 3 bases wide). Sho...

Defensive Spear vs. Pikes

Hello, my grip on the rules is not very good yet and so I have a question. :D Especially in medieval armies there is often the infantry defensive spear. Sometimes it becomes pikes in a later period. Later medieval german for example. I noticed that a defensive spear unit is not much cheaper point-wi...

Condotta Italian with Italian allies

Hi!

I don't understand how to use the Italian allies for Condotta Italian.

I see no entry for allied commanders, do I have to take them to take any allies?

Or can I just pick up to two (for two "contingents") minimum-sized battle groups from other cities?

Thanks in advance

@ johno

interesting technic... I'd thought about something similar, but was afraid, it would end too greyish...

What ink did you use and how much did you thin it? Did you add something? Dry retarder or soap?

I was looking for a way to use the new Games Workshop Washes, but I fear, they are - though excellent - the wrong tool for the job. A very thinned ink would be better than a wash (I never was quite sure about the difference, but now I THINK I understand it)... So, I am interested in the future-Ink m...

@ethan thanks for the link... I used the dips of army painter and made mixed experiences... The effect ist very good, but can be a bit luck dependent... And I'm not sure, how effektiv it is with 15mm. But in the end, the whole job of dipping was too dirty and smelly for me... I switched to the new G...

Second here is some material about the teutonic order, I found on the web: "RitterBrudern (Brother Knight) These monastic Knights were the Elite of the Order. Their equipment was the best available of the time comparable with that of the best Knights of Western Europe. A White Jupon marked with...

Thinking about Teutonic Knights

Hello at all! I am still thinking about starting a medieval army with knights. And I am still thinking about taking a later medieval one, because of the easy paint job. On the other hand, it's alluring to make a teutonic army. Yes, I know, painting white is not easy... I have a few ideas for t...

@Ethan again: priming in metal is an interesting tip  Can you suggest a good primer in this colour? So am I right, that all the late medieval knights (let's say, 15. Century) wore full plate, plate barding and no shield or heraldics? Or just the examples I called? (French ordonnance, Burgundia...

Thanks for all the answers :D @Ethan: Yes, I was thinking about such armies (like Malays), too... I considered Numidians, New Kingdom Egyptian or Classical Indians... but for the one or other reason I decided against them. And now I am looking for a medieval army. And I want some knights - a simple ...
