What a cracking weekend. Thanks Keith for organising this. I really enjoyed the weekend. Good gaming with a good bunch of people. And a fantastic venue, with good beer and food. Did I mention the beer? What a good weekend, thanks a lot Keith

Foot and artillery question

Hi. Me again. This happened in yesterday's game ( a glorious Swedish victory!) My opponent had a battery of three pieces of artillery, supported by a unit of 5 musket and one pike. As I trudged across the table, his artillery was popping away, causing damage to a unit of commanded shot and a unit of...

Swedes again

Hi, With Arquebusier coming up, Im beginning to get some games in 25MM. In a Swedish Brigade, the "point" base of pike and the regimental gun are considered as markers, and all measurements are taken from thefirst "solid" rank. ( Sorry, but I cant think of a better way of putting...

Battle wagons

Somebody at the club decided to use a Polish/Lithuanian army, and included battle wagons. This caused some concern as it was the first time we had seen them fielded. As they slowly plodded around the table, they naturally took some fire, and then came the problem... In the glossary, it says " b...

Light horse and cavalry too dominant?

After following madaxemans reports, playing in club leagues and taking part in several competitions, I now have to ask if the rules are too generous to light horse/cavalry armies. Having seen Alistair's dominance of the standings, at our club we have seen more and more players going to light horse a...

guns and more guns

Hi, just a quick question. A unit of 6 muskets medium foot , with a regimental gun is in support of a two gun artillery unit. Two files are directly behind the guns, and one is stickingout to the side. They wish to shoot at infantry that ae approaching them from the front. The two artillery fire, an...

Shooting at Routing troops

A situation happened last night where bunches of dragoons were shooting at each other in the flanks sector of the table. Inevitably, mine failed their cohesion tests, went disrupted and then fragged. My opponent then declared a charge on them, and they broke. Owing to the vagaries of dice, and angle...

Re: Prospective Player Questions

A couple of answers. 1. Your plastics will be fine. People are using all sorts of figures in all sorts of scales, so dont worry. Its base size that is important. 1/72 figures are between the two major scales of 15mm or 28mm, although probably closer to modern 15mm. So go with that base size and adju...

8000 points would be quite an impressive sight. i should imagine a number of wargamers willl succumb to heart attacks carrying that many figures though... :)

Re: Effect of Disorder on firing/fighting

The disorder doesnt kick in at 1 per3, that's the effect of the disorder. I think that when they are shooting, they would still have their normal number of dice as the medium foot shot are not disordered. When it comes to fighting, the battle group is disordered because of the heavy foot pike, and s...

Re: Dragoons or Light Foot

I would say you pay your money and take your choice. Dragoons are more expensive, but have a better chance of damaging the enemy. They are faster and so can be concentrated where you need them more easily. LF are cheaper, less effective in firing and slower. However, they dont need a gap to run away...

Re: Derby World Teams Competition 6/7 October 2012

Kevin, I have canvassed opinion at SELWG and it looks , at the moment , as though we have two teams ready for it, and a possibility of a third. Hope you can sort it out with Derby to get this played. Tony

Re: Derby World Teams Competition 6/7 October 2012

When it was rumoured to be running last year, the rumour ran that each team would have to have one "early", one "middle " and one "late" period army. Obviously, not sure of where the dividing lines would be drawn, but hopefully, most groups of three players could hit th...
