Yes, it's a GOG thing. People had hundreds of old games and kept their save archives bloated, so they needed it to keep servers running more optimally. I still think they should enable to select 2-3 games where you can disable this limit, let's say those one plays continuously, but it is what it is ...

This is easily fixed by adding a "No Split" hero in map creation. Kerensky addresse a similar issue that was initially a bug with a medical transport in "AO Spanish Civil War - Teruel" by doing this exact thing in a later patch. If the unit cannot be split at all, the problem gets solved easily ...

I ran into the same issue, but luckily managed to figure this out and reloaded to not loose the commendation points.
