1st Guards true facts
About campaign scenarios. The first two scenarios (Lessons of war , Ending stalemates ) are for learning units. I don't know what connection it has to the 1st Guard Army. In the 3rd scenario(Born in flames), the connection is that after this battle, Guard units were created, but not 1st Guards Army. 4 (Saturn on the Chir) is real with commander Dmitry Lelyushenko. 5 (Citadel sortie) and 6 (Heroes of Soviet Union) are fictional. 1st Gaurds not fight there. 1st Guards army was part of the Southwestern Front - commander Rodion Malinovsky, not Voronezh Front commander Nikolai Vatutin. 7 (Brody Cauldron) is OK. About 8 (Oder offensive) and 9 (Allies) are fictional and the biggest mistake. The army was part of the 4th Ukrainian Front commander Ivan Petrov(August 1944 - March 1945), Andrey Yeryomenko (March 1945 - May 1945), not 1st Ukrainian Front commander Ivan Koniev. In 1945 1st Guards began fight in Slovakia, later southern Poland in the mountains below Cracow. It ended in May in Cieszyn Czech. At wikipedia there is Western Carpathian offensive https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Western_C ... _offensive with map.

There is a difference between 1st Guards Army https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1st_Guard ... iet_Union) and 1st Guards Tank Army https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1st_Guards_Tank_Army.
Re: 1st Guards true facts
These are here for two reasons most likely. One is to give some historical context of earlier Reda Army operations and Soviet involvement in the events prior World War proper. The other, more important, is to allow the player to customize his core, earn a bit of experience on units, get a few heroes and do upgrades - the things players like in this game. There is no massive direct tie-in between these missions and later units, unlike Light Division becoming 7th Panzer, but I guess that will not always be possible, so that's an OK compromise.
I'm quite curious how things will turn out and will be doing some similar research in my run as I try to keep it close to historical records, so I'll probably have a look at what you mentioned as well. Hopefully the connection is not as loose as suggested.

Re: 1st Guards true facts
Instead of choosing Soviet units with histories that are sometimes hard to trace, we could have focused on famous Soviet marshals like Zhukov and Konev...
Re: 1st Guards true facts
I am on mission 6 and I am starting to the the feeling the biggest culprit being this is... simply the naming of the campaign. Ghost Division clearly established an idea of following one unit, but in 1st Guards were jumping from place to place and constantly changing the assignments. Some units CAN potentially repeat between battles, so it is not like there is no continuity, but there is not the same feeling as Ghost Division gave off.terminator wrote: ↑Sat Dec 06, 2025 6:00 pm Instead of choosing Soviet units with histories that are sometimes hard to trace, we could have focused on famous Soviet marshals like Zhukov and Konev...
Now, if this campaign was simply titles "Guards" and immediately focused the narrative that it shows exploits of various units often only on the way of to being given the title of "Guards", this would have been a much cleaner message and did not result in the same dissonance.
Or maybe we're just not interpreting it as it was intended and the "1st" in "1st Guards" means the first steps of becoming Guards units?
