The discussion is really about both, that is, the ability of BG's to hold a defensive line on any type of terrain with a lesser chance of anarchy & with a lesser chance of anarchy that itself would entail more control to the player. Some type of defensive stance mode as others here have suggested ...

You all have made some good points concerning the sarissa armed phalanx not ever (that I know of anyway) making an anarchy attack in the RW. Points concerning the Romans & then the saxon-Danes/English at Hastings making anrachy type attacks are great examples of disciplined & semi-disciplined troops ...

Hi & greetings, Yes, my ideas are cosmetic to a small degree but more historically accurate to a larger degree. Something such as we are speaking of & analyzing is hard to put into a workable & mainly uncomplicated streamlined format, but even with such ideas as I have put forth the complication is ...

If you're into the Punic Wars, try adding/modifying 1 or 2 Spanish LF Javelineers as Superior, Swordsmen+, Protected. These would represent Lusitanians (sp?). They are OK & historical. The more LF in a game the merrier it is, & there were indeed large numbers of missile armed LF & MF in the RW in ...

Suggestions, troop types, etc.
Hi, Very good game as it is. Thanx. However, maybe somethings might be made more historical/realistic.
1) As you know, not all of Rome's military manpower pool consisted of Romans & Latins, yet this is what the games only uses. If the manpower pool were cut back to say 50% or so (based somewhat on ...

It seems that there is a chance element/variable introduced into the math for determining losses, how a troop type performs in different terrains, and of course how anarchy is determined to occur or not occur. I had an unsupported Of. Spear unit on clear terrain beat off 2 assaults w/o taking heavy ...

Another small, but interesting Roman unit was the Celeres, or fast troops. Remember the Italian Celeres Division that fought in the USSR during WWII? It was named after these ancinet Roman Celeres. It seems the Celeres were more prevalent in times preceeding the 1st Punic War, but could have been ...

Hi, I am updated to v.1.33, so is this version fixed concerning the cavalry charging into elephants?
Ideas: 1) For drilled troops simply lower the odds of them going anarchistic, & give them even a lower chance when behind a ditch. It couldn't be done if they were on a hill since that is elevation ...

So far this organization & variables of it have worked well for both the Romans & Carthaginians. FoG recomends - & the math is probably based on this - that the MF & all Cavalry units be ~2/3 the size of a HF unit, & that LF (& maybe LH) units be 1/3 the size of a HF unit. Therfore, with Roman HF ...

BTW, when designing units, don't give Impact Foot javelins because Impact Foot are already considered to have short range javleins or pilums & those missile weapons are included in the math for determinng the power of Impact Foot.
I don't make the Allied Hastati as Impact Foot since I feel it makes ...
