DanZanzibar (Kyrenean Greek) challenges Wakavengerf (Arab)

PW: Chaos

PM Sent
The PM for this challenge sent September 2nd is still not picked up. I'm thinking he may not be finishing the tourney...
He hasn't picked up mine from the 10th either :-(

Perhaps real life issues arise. I've sent him PM. I'll give him a couple of days to respond, then move forward from there.

Regards,

Karvon the Chaotic.

Div 3 result
Blagrot @ Byzantine vs roguedjack @ Thracian

We agreed to a draw on turn 9. The score was 4-0 for Blagrot.

The bulk of the Thracian army was medium and light foot in the woods and the Byzantine were mostly bow lancers and heavy foot. After some skirmishing in the open both commanders met on the field. They agreed war is bad and it is better for the Thracian to sing around camp fires in the woods with their squirrel friends and for the Byzantines to organize jousts under the sun. Or so the legends say. Modern historians are more of the opinion that the Thracians wouldn't expose themselves to lancers and bows in the open and the Byzantine wouldn't charge in the woods with their lancers and heavy foot. It should be said that modern historians tend to ruin everything with their cold hard facts.

Thus ends my tourney. These were my first mp games. It was interesting, challenging, a learning experience and fun.
Thanks to Karvon for organizing the tourney.

Any rumours that the thracian commander only revealed himself after the Byzantines gave up on finding their opponents and just started calling 'come out, come out, wherever you are' are entirely fabricated and probably treasonous.

Here's another update for the tourney; as mentioned earlier, Div 2 has completed play.

We have an MIA player, whom I've sent a PM to; I'm giving him a couple more days to respond. If I don't hear back from him, his matches will be considered forfeited 4-0.

Wondering about the status of my game vs wakeavenger. He hasn't replied since Sept. 14 and was about to be defeated at that point. Credit for a win would improve my score considerably.

Sorry, not sure how that happened; I'd recorded a result in the game logs. I'll double-check thru the forum, maybe I double copied some one else's score into your space.

I’m not sure if Mike_C is going to be able to finish. I know he was dealing with some real life concerns that slowed him down when our match began and now he hasn’t played in 2 weeks and hasn’t picked up my PM from a few days ago. Just a heads up in case you do hear from him.

I'll contact him and see how things are going with him.

Wakavengerf has not responded to PM sent within the allotted time. Therefore, his games are forfeit 4-0 to his opponents. I will post an updated leaderboard shortly.

Division 1

Macedonczyk(Umbrian 490-260BC) defeats Karwon (Latin 490-338BC) 57:23

I had luck with many pushback of my units and evades of skirmishes which help in flank attacks.

Division 1

Macedonczyk(Arab Umayyad 685AD) defeats NikiforosFokas(Indo-Skythian 95BC) 20:4 (opponent surrender)

Interesting battle with some luck again. For example disrupted unit of enemy move back and routed (get double drop only from move back).

The last games have been wrapped up; MikeC still hasn't opened the PM I sent last week, so I am awarding the game to his opponent.

Here's the final leader board.

DanZanzibar was the high scorer winning 8 matches and scoring 31 pts.
Macedonczyk scored a second division in a row gold medal.

Results breakdown of 108 games

86 4-0 wins (80%)
10 3-1 wins (9%)
10 2-2 draws (8%)
3 0-0 draws (3%)

5 games allotted by forfeit; 1 player dropping out half way, 1 player missing final game.

I'll post the Chaos Tourney Player records a bit later.

Chaos Tourney Season V will kick off after the close of the current DL9.

If you have any feedback, feel free to leave it here or PM me.

Thanks everyone for playing; hope you join us again in the future!

Initially I was a little thrown by the format, but I came to enjoy the challenge posed by unfamiliar armies and opponents. It inspired me to try playing as the Visigoths in the Digital League. Foolish optimism. But lots of fun and I'm steadily learning. Thanks for setting this up and count me on for the next one.

Many thanks, Karvon, for a well-organised and fun tournament! I have two suggestions:

1. Mirror matches in order to make it more balanced while still retaining the chaos element.
2. Sort into some rough historical periods, at least when randomising which armies to meet each other. Somehow I don't like to see a 1000AD army meeting a 800BC army. (I'm not chaotic enough, I guess, and I of course acknowledge that these extreme matchups may be the whole idea behind the Chaos Tourney.)

Thanks Karvon! That was super fun and I love the basic premise. I personally would not be a fan of mirror matches (pretty much ever) as I don't see this format being about seeing 2 random armies go up against each other so much as YOU (the player) getting a random army and being forced to make the best of it. That day when you get the slave revolt and actually manage to win... well that would just be the best day ever, no?
