The second round of the tournament ended in the same way: a crushing defeat for the Normans. More heavily armed than the Bretons, they had the misfortune to get stuck in a stream that made their lances more cumbersome than murderous. The proud Celtic, meanwhile, found their light spears very practical in this environment.

Solemnace's Arab(Umayyad) 685CE-750CE defeats Rockmanbob123's Breton 580CE-931CE 44-19

The Bretons brought a horde of light horse to support a more limited amount of light spear cavalry to try and overwhelm the Arabs with horse thrown javelins to claim victory. Arguably they brought far too many and the Arab Bedouin Light horse and Armored Muslim Lancers cut a swath through the Breton Light horse inflicting massive losses on them driving many from the field before the arrival of the rest of the Breton Cavalry stabilized the situation. While the Breton cavalry did significant damage to the mounted Arab contingent the bulk of the Arab strength was in their spearmen and foot missile troops for which the Bretons ultimately had no answer and suffering heavy losses were driven from the field.

ThatUglyGuy (Lusitanian) defeats SirMichael (Roman) 70-44

The sole win for Lusitanians this tournament.

The Romans surprised me by appearing full force through the somewhat rough terrain on the hill, the extreme right flank routed almost without a fight.
While the survivors of the right flank were fighting and dying for a foothold on top of the hill, the center and left made short work of the opponents on the plain and came streaming up the hill just in time to prove decisive.

hscic defeated jolibois77 in both games Neo-Hittite/Aramaen v Egyptian 40-12 55-26.
The first battle was essentially a clash of infantry, in which Egyptian superiority prevailed over the Neo-Hittite numerical advantage. The second consisted of an asymmetric confrontation between the solid Egyptian infantry and the mobile, mounted Neo-Hittite forces. In this second scenario, the Neo-Hittites, thanks to their mobility and firepower, managed to overcome their opponents. Thanks to Jolibois77 for the two hard-fought games.

Chris Townsend's Germans defeat SawyerK's Slaves 63 to 36.

The wide ranging battle got quite chaotic with all the undisciplined infantry pursuing in all directions!

In the end, the slaves morale collapsed just before they could rout another few warriors, and the survivors will be rounded up and sold to Rome!

DocVanNostrand (Hunnic) defeats Garokan (German) 60-41

Both this and the mirror have been absolutely brutal, tooth-and-nail affairs. After the battle turned into a chaotic set of mini battles scattered around the map, it was the Hun horse archers that finally bested the German, lancer-based cavalry. GG

SawyerK and the German FT 105 BC to 259 AD army

defeated

Chris Townsend and the Slave Revolt 73-71 BC army by 62 to 53.

Overpursuit and subsequent flank attacks almost proved fatal for the Germans, but their quality of force prevailed in the end. Barely.

markleslie Arab (Abassid) 747-793 AD defeats Jtrillodmp Dabuyid 642-760 AD 47-14.

My anticipation of this matchup only rose as the map and my opponents deployment were revealed.


The lines settle into their prolonged bog slog.


No crazy, crazy rng so things just ground down bit by bit til something finally gave and the Dabuyid right and centre collapsed.

Solemnace's Breton 580CE-931CE defeats Rockmanbob123's Arab(Umayyad) 685CE-750CE 60-36

The Arabs expecting to face a mass of light horse brought a large contingent of cavalry to face the Bretons. The Bretons however actually brought a relatively small amount of light horse instead focusing on their Elite light Spear cavalry instead. This left the Arabs in a disadvantageous position as they suddenly present the Bretons with many cavalry units they could very effectively fight and the Bretons were in heavy fighting able to sweep away almost all of the Arab left and centre. The Arab right against the water where they had placed their infantry was able with cavalry support to drive back the Bretons in front of them and but by the end of the battle only the infantry and the Arab elite cavalry were left badly outnumbered by Breton cavalry and had little choice but to retreat.
