I am working on a horus heresy mod and want to use the community patch to enhance it.
Scoured the forum but cannot find a fix that works for my issue:
the community patch says to create a new file at the root of your drive, i do this and the game says im missing a dll and does not launch.
i install directly to the directory and the game says I dont have the steam or gog version.
Ive uninstalled, reinstalled, moved files, not sure.
did you ever figure out how to fix this?
I ran into the same issue as this. I also have Steam (FYI: the steam thread for the community update has a link from June 17th of 2026 by the designer, to a post in this thread from 2019, that says you just need to download the community update and run it. Which seems to be what you did and I did the same. The reason is, despite the official steam thread saying it's "standalone", it is not standalone, you need the entire installed directory for the game. If you are using steam like me, this will be in something like "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Warhammer 40000 Armageddon", and will probably be the path if you just use all steams defaults and don't install your games on another drive or location.
That folder has all the rest of the files you need including the .DLL. I think what you are supposed to do is to compay that "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Warhammer 40000 Armageddon" folder to the root of your C: drive, then you can copy the contents of the community update to that. That said, I don't think you'll get further than that. First time I ran the ArmageddonGame.exe file I got a windows defender pop-up that the app was basically not signed anymore and the creator could not be determined. This is likely because the exe is ancient and the cert slytherine used expired, or maybe they made a new one when they re-launched as classic. Well if I allow that and I use the root of my C: I get a message when I start that I need to own a copy of the game and have it installed on my computer (I do and yes steam is running.)
So I say screw it, and copy the files straight over my real steam apps folder. if I launch the Exe in from that folder I get the same 'you don't own this' warning. If I launch it from steam, it will launch and I can get all the way into a mission in a fresh campaign, but I pretty get the unhandled exception error that plagues this thread and the official steam one.
I suppose there is a sick irony in hearing that some noble soul created a community patch to fix the incredible number frustrations and jank in the official game, only to find that Slytherines abandonment of the game has created a frustrating labyrinth of dead link after dead link. I genuinely don't even know what the patch really does. The steam threads OG comment as link to file called "imperium_new_units" that is in google drive that far and away the largest at 515mb, so i downloaded and isntalled that. Obviously I tried "ArmageddonGame_Heavy_MoveAndShoot_GrindingAdvance_InfantryKiller_TankHunter_Melta" that you did as well that was was described as the "community update" but is clearly not "Standalone". I found mention of a "ArmageddonGame_8ed fixed" and downloaded and tried that as well. I also linked to the original thread on this forum for ""ArmageddonGame_Heavy_MoveAndShoot_GrindingAdvance_InfantryKiller_TankHunter_Melta" but that describes itsself on being on version 1.11, but I assume the "8th ed." refers to the 8th ed. in warhammer.
Ah well. Sorry for the typos, i just stream of conciousnessed out of frustration of spending like 3 hours trying to figure this out. Please know that NONE of this frustration is directed at our Turkish God Emperor or any of the good people of this thread. If any of you have it in your hearts to do provide a modern (classic? lol) update to the process for just getting the community update to work and what all these diffrent downloads even do. I would Love that. And if you don't, I'll completely understand and i'll just get up tomorrow knowing that I'll just have to live with the fact that I lose requisition every time a mission suddenly ends while my terrifically ineffective but loveable flame legionaires are still in thier chimera's, and I'll probably still buy a vulture even though flying units just melt and there is almost no advantage to flying to be had. Night!
