Re: Stockport Pick'n'Mix 2014 - December 13th/14th

Kurt and I are interested in FOGR. I can play FOGAM if FOGR is only one day.

Another area that needs a special rule for 5 by 3 tables has been pointed out to me. It is possible that if the player with initiative deploys an ambush right on the centre line then the other player can deploy an ambush marker in contact with it. This is because the player without initiative can d...

Great Northern Wars

I have some 15mm Swedish musketeers for the Great Northern War. Can anyone tell me how to base them for FOGR? Base depth, number of figures to a base, typical battlegroup size?

Thanks

Thanks for the clarification Nik. Charging as far as they can does seem the most pragmatic solution. Unfortunately I suspect this will continue to be a problem for players as the rules do not cover the situation. I have to say this is the first hole I have found in the rules, and I mean that as a co...

I agree that it is an anomaly that if the charge is cancelled the "chargers" can then move normally. However I do not think that is the case as the unit will have declared and logically executed a charge during the impact phase. Where in the rules is there provision for a charge that screa...

OK that seems to settle it. Evade from a legal charge takes place, but the charge is then cancelled as it has become illegal. Only other wrinkle is the chargers presumably dice to see how far they pursue, and I would argue that the charge is only cancelled if the modified charge move would hit the f...

OK another try on the diagram! Line added to position the LH correctly. [LF][LF][LF] __________[LH][LH] [HF][HF][HF][HF][HF] LF AND HF are on the same side. HF are a 10 base unit and are too wide to drop a base to get past the friendly LF. Even if they roll down on pursuit they are still close enoug...

OK here is the diagram [LF][LF][LF] [LH][LH] [HF][HF][HF][HF][HF] LF AND HF are on the same side. HF are a 10 base unit and are too wide to drop a base to get past the friendly LF. Even if they roll down on pursuit they are still close enough to hit the LF. I have looked at the rules and they don't ...

Charging problem

We had a situation where a HF battlegroup had to its' front enemy Light Horse, and beside it and slightly further away the rear of friendly Light Foot. So it seemed that the the Heavy foot could legally charge the Light Horse, but if it skirmished would run into the back of the friendly Light Foot. ...

I think Heavy Artillery should not ambush. It cannot move in the game because it was too big and heavy to move once a battle starts. Setting it up ahead of the main deployment area would be impractical compared with more mobile artillery and troops in most circumstances. It was so big it would be no...

Another wrinkle on this. If the pursuers in the impact phase hit enemy that has also been charged by another BG do you fight that as a single combined impact, or two separate impacts? I think if you try to fight the two impacts together it causes all sorts of anomalies - like if you already fought t...

I note you can have multiple combats and pursuits in the same Impact phase, Impact pursuers fighting any fresh enemy in the same phase. So I think there is an argument for multiple evades too?

Note the problem does not arise if the pursuers contact in the impact phase, as the impact combat is adjudicated in the same impact phase (page 108). A pursuit after the combat phase means the fight has been going on for some time, not a break on impact. So troops in the way may have more notice of ...

Multiple pursuit in Impact Phase?

Page 108 says that if pursuers contact fresh enemy the combat is in the next impact phase, except that a contact in the impact phase is adjudicated in the same impact phase. What happens if a unit breaks on impact, the pursuers hit new enemy who also break on impact? Do the pursuers pursue a second ...
