<snip>. I need to get this army done so I can work on something else. -steven This is a strange concept - finishing one thing before starting another?! :D On my painting table at the moment I have 15mm Italian Condotta Knights for FoG, 28mm SYW Austrian Cuirassiers, 15mm WW2 German AT Guns and Brit...

I will say Warring States Chinese with current rules but I'm afraid the mobility of MF against HF will be lost in V2 :( I think Warring States Chinese would be veery good, and what the MF lose in mobility in V2 the chariots gain in impact and resistance to shooting. I would go with the mixed battle...

If anything, I think it should be the opposite, at least for mounted troops breaking an enemy BG. I think they should suffer a loss of cohesion as they pursue the enemy routers. I agree, any steady BG that routs an opponent and pursues should drop to disrupted. When they pass a CMT to stop pursuing...

There are a lot of troop types that cannot turn and move in a sinlge move but do so when routing, so arguing that the chariots are not allowed to turn seems to be clutching at straws.

Well no one is going to support the IWF. The IWF ist kaput. Pity. But if it is unwilling or unable to change it will become extinct. Is someone going to found the WWF now. Or do we have to wait for the pandas to finish with it. Though they appear to have a more promising future than the IWF. Perhap...

Evade moves have nothing to do with determining interception moves. Interception moves happen before any evade moves. Read pages 62 and 63. This is what I argued. If evade moves have nothing to do with interception charges then the fact that the LF can evade should have no bearing on whether the HF...

If you consider the question where the LF were a BG of troops that could not evade then could the HF intercept? I would argue that the answer is "no" as they could not cross the charge path of the chargers. The fact that the LF can evade should not affect the ability of the HF to make an i...

I was thinking of a situation like this: __AAAA BBBB __CCCC A is the enemy BG. B is a non shock BG that declares a charge on A. C is shock mounted which fails a CMT not to charge A. B charges home; C charges home but has some bases that can not drop back to avoid friends B (by now already in contac...

I disagree. In a situation where we have one declared charge and one failed CMT not to charge, we simply have two charges. We then move to the Charge moves sequence and the rules appear to be silent on who moves first; so the charging player choses. <snip>. I would have thought that the fact that t...

Good example - i think I've figured it out. The key language is on page 58 * "They do not test (and will not charge) if the friends are shock troops or already in melee." This bullet applies "if they could not contact the enemy without passing through friends" As someone mention...

Someone prove me wrong, please. I'd prefer that the cav charge into contact and then the shock foot wouldn't charge since the friends they can't avoid are in contact. AND the firends move faster, AND the friends are in front. Pole position counts for nothing. After re-reading p58 it seems that the ...

The foot could contract in a column and attempt to reach the enemy bg. Potentially ending in an overlap with side edge to side edge contact with the friendly mounted. Still contacting the enemy with corner to corner. In the situation I described there were two bases of the foot BG behind the mounte...

Another benefit of a third rank of LF is that it aids manoeuverability. A 4 base HF or MF BG deployed two bases wide will turn 90 degrees and form a one base wide column. A 6 base BG with 4 bases of HF/MF and 2 bases of LF deployed 2 bases wide will maintain its formation when turning 90 degrees. Th...

Charging without orders

We had an unusual situation in a game last week. A 4 base wide BG of Impact foot was partly behind (2 bases behind friends, 2 bases facing enemy) a friendly mounted BG and in range of enemy troops. This BG failed its CMT to not charge the enemy. The friendly mounted BG in front was not in contact wi...

I used to flank march frequently in DBM, but do less so in FoG. In both cases I have generally achieved better results when flank marching. Whether to flank march depends alot on the type of army you are facing. It is much better to FM against a large and/or unmaneouverable army. However, most armie...

I dont know if the initial diagrams give a good indication of the actual unit positions but if they do and the AUx in front of the LH are lined up with the LH then I dont believe the LH could have got around them. Two points:
You are not a true wargamer unless you have your own body weight in unpainted figures!
and
You do not have to think of "Need" when purchasing new figures.

Maybe your opponent will think that his Light foot can hold off your MF/Hf in your next game, and then get a real shock as the LF are destroyed in record time :) I have had one occurence where a group of Cavalry charged some light foot. The foot evaded but were caught. They then passed the impact an...

Re: Later Ottomans compared to Mongols - what am I missing?

First of I would dispute the odds - if we assume both have a general (and that is reasonable considering how much Cavalry a Mongol army has), then the bowmen get 1.33 hits to the Bowmen and 1.78 to the Knights. So this is drawish or close. I don't know what you consider close, but if a BG of knight...

A number of Irish were brought across from Ireland to join the English Royalist (I think it was in late 1643). They were considered more of a hinderance than a help as they were poorly equipped, many not having shoes, and they had a tendency to plunder the local population which did not help the Roy...
