Have mongols, want something new

I want something
Small and professional (drilled)
Looks good
Mobile (doesn't need to be cavalry necessarily, but I should be able to concentrate at the decisive point much faster than the enemy is able to)
Has really nice figures in 15mm

I will say Warring States Chinese with current rules but I'm afraid the mobility of MF against HF will be lost in V2 :(

MF is armoured, drilled, 1/2 HW 1/2 Xbow and with 1 or 2 BG with portable defense they not fear shock mounted in open.
1 BG could be 8 MF armoured spear ;)
2 BG of heavy chariot as shock mounted.

I have some decent result with it, modifying my army list step by step after each tournament (no partners around :( ).

Chinese armies generally have a nice mix of troops and are colourful.

From the criteria you gave, maybe look at a few medieval mercenary armies?

Your criteria describes Mongols, maybe really try something new and go for an army that plays differently.

I was thinking there must be some mobile infantry/cavalry combined forces that can move....Chinese sounds good

I'm thinking like warring states Qin with mostly mixed BGs, chariots and a BG of swordsmen.....question is how useful are the mixed BGs on the offensive and should I rather just have the missiles and CCF separate?

I could go completely of keel and get this splintered light Saxons......not sure how well early Saxons would hold up though.....they seem aggressive enough, which is my style, but kind of vulnerable....alot of stuff to paint at 600or 800 points

Other thing I'm thinking is one of the Muslim armies. What are some good disciplined Muslim armies I could get really aggressive with?

And my other question still holds....are Samnites drilled?

early archamenid persians

mix of cav light horse and foot.
medium foot professionals drilled -immortals; with bows too
greek hoplites

Its very colourful but is manouverable and as a mixed force can take on most opponents- it is great in defence and also strong in attack

and has fun options with chariots and other toys

You can get a very nice 13 BG Ordonnance French army, although in the end there isn't a lot of variety.

Superior Kn, Superior Pike, drilled Longbow...who needs variety?

Actually you can make sassanid even fewer BG's if you want - I remember playing one at 900 pts who had just 11 bg's.

I would put in a vote for the Ayyubid Egyptians. Drilled cavalry in large amounts and Saladin to boot. What's not to like?

I think Saladin might be most unhappy that you want to boot him.

"to boot" is a Texas phrase. I could explain it but first I would have to see your credentials. You might well be a Yankee.....

I like this suggestion for the entirely unselfish reason that I've finally got the EAP cavalry castings in stock and will have them painted up within about 3 weeks or so!
