Re: What did they go for in the end?

As a Late Roman fanboy myself I would be the first to admit that there were a number of defeats at the hands of the 'barbarians' that were not down to darstardly deeds such as ambushes etc. I suspect if you looked at the entire course of Roman history and totted up the known victories and defeats th...

Re: Quick Reference Sheet for V.2

It does not take much working out that at some stage in the near future someone is likely either to put up on the jolly old interweb either a home brew QR sheet or even post on to the web scanned copies of the reference pages from V2 of the rules, or even the entire rule book (unfortunately many rul...

Re: V2 Printed proof approved!

It's not necessarily true that books are exempt from VAT in the UK, game books incur VAT as they are considered a childrens game which is not VAT exempt. I got caught like this when I bought some stuff from the USA and customs & excise refused to hand it over until I paid the VAT despite me prov...

Re: So is v2 any good?

So only two or three people on here have actually played games with FOG2. That says something about the take up of the electronic version I suppose. What will the situation be I wonder if the electronic sales are very poor, how will that affect the funding for the print version? If the digi...

Will Sliterine ever be selling the 'Distant Worlds' series of games on behalf of Matrix or do I have to go an buy them directly from Matrix Games (incuring VAT when they arrive by the way!)

Re: FoG:AM v2 - improvement suggestions for electronic forma

Is it possible to include a link on a page which you can click and it bring up a pop-up of a example diagram or even an animation illustrating a point? Adrian, I take it you have no experience of the existing product? Diagrams are embedded into the rules as they were with v1 and (on the iPad versio...

Re: Version Control/Primacy

Is'nt this likely to create a 'two-tier' gaming system where 'Tier 1' has access to a portable device they can bring to the table top and have a copy of the most up to date rules, and a 'Tier 2' who only have access to a printed copy and may only get a once a year update and who are therefore disadv...

Re: v2 Restricted Area

I think Richard has overlooked the fact that there are many users of FOG out there whose first language is not English and if some of them do not fully understand something then it is perhaps an indication it needs to be written a little clearer.

Did'nt the Sasanids find their Elephants of little use against the Romans, to the extent at one battle they placed them in the third line?

Re: Field of Glory goes 2.0 !

I know some people dont like pre-set terrain on the tables but it has one huge advantage, it really does speed up laying lead on the table and playing a game. It might help with the complaints of there being two many draws if people have just that little bit long to play for the win.

Re: Players in East Kent UK

I live on the outskirts of Margate, just 15 minutes away. I dont normally play FOG as there are no FOG players down this way but when FOG2 is released I'd be willing to give it a go with you. By then I may well have replaced some of the figures I recently lost as well.

Re: Roman Foederati cavalry

There are a number of accounts of where Goths were hired for a specific campaign and then returned home afterwards, one has to presume those Goths were only armed in their native arms and armour. However, when they were being recruited for several years they do appear then to have been brigaded into...

Re: Roman Foederati cavalry

Foederate cavalry would have initially been hired on an 'as you are' basis i.e. what ever the 'barbarians' turned up with they used. The assumption by many is that the 'barbarians' tended to have little armour and what there was tended to be restricted just to Kings, Chieftens and their retinue. How...

A lesson learnt, and perhaps a lesson for us all?

Well goodly FoG folk. I've received an offer from the Travel Insurance people today for the figures I lost. Well, when I say 'offer', waht they have done is attach a cheque in 'full and final settlement of your claim'! Its for less than one fifth of what I calculated the cost would be to replace the...

Re: Lost Figures at London Victoria Station on 12th August

Get a proper estimate of replacement cost for your insurance Adrian. It will cost a lot more than that to replace it even old for old, as well painted figures cost a lot more even if old. Hi Phil, I did that my good friend, cost was worked out at £1.50 for each infantry figure and each mounted figu...
