Lost Figures at London Victoria Station on 12th August

Post by ValentinianVictor »

Unfortunately the great time I had at Britcon last weekend was rather marred by the fact that whilst attempting to get through the ticket barrier at Platform 5 at London Victoria station on Sunday evening I managed to leave my toolbox with my figures at the barrier.

I've tried to remember what was in the box and post them here in the hope that if any of you good people see similar figures at shows, shops, bring & buys, boot fairs, ebay etc then please can you contact me. I've alerted British Transport Police and lost property who, whilst helpful and symphatetic, have basically said that as they were not handed in on Sunday then they have probably been taken by someone. As it was a tool box they probably thought they had picked up a box of tools and on discovering it was full of toy soldiers they either threw it in a skip/bin or gave it to their kids.

Anyway, here is the list-

Here is a list of what was in the box-

Just a quick update-

British Transport Police are checking the CCTV today to discover what happened. Having mentally gone back over the day I now believe I left the box at the Burger King on the platform facing Platform 5.

In case people bombard me with messages, there is a Late Roman army on ebay, put up by Antigonas, its not mine, but could be a nice replacement!!!

Perhaps worth checking with that burger king outlet. Might have put it in the manager's office?

It was very difficult to get Burger King to answer the Phone on Monday, they did have a check but found nothing. I'm hoping that the Police may pick up what happened to the box on the CCTV. Woe betide if it was a member of the Burger King staff or rail staff who took it!!!

Well good folk, London Victoria train station lost luggage have confirmed that no tool box with wargame figures has been handed in, so now classed as 'lost'. London Transport Lost Luggage confirmed the same. British Transport Police contacted me yesterday to say that they initially looked at the wrong day's CCTV but have since looked at the right tape and confirmed that I left my box at Burger King on the concourse facing platform 5. Unfortunately the camera's do not cover Burger King that well so they cannot see what happened to the box when I left it there. Advised that I should start checking Ebay to see if anyone attempts to flog them there. The policeman was symphatetic as his brother-in-law is a wargamer! He rather deflated me by expressing the opinion that whoever took the box upon finding no tools in it probably then threw the box and contents in a skip/rubbish bin or something similar.

I'd previously sent details of what I lost to my travel insurance company so I may get £50 if I'm lucky.

Get a proper estimate of replacement cost for your insurance Adrian. It will cost a lot more than that to replace it even old for old, as well painted figures cost a lot more even if old.

Hi Phil, I did that my good friend, cost was worked out at £1.50 for each infantry figure and each mounted figure at £3.00.
Unfortunately it appears that unless you can provide receipts for the figures the travel insurance company will only pay a maximum of £50. Luckily I still had the emails for the two lots of figures I bouught off Ebay so I may get the value of those figures but the ones I painted myself or I bought unpainted and then paid someone else to paint them privately are a different matter.

Oh well, if nothing else it will teach me to handcuff the next box of figures to my wrist in future!!!

As an aside, wasn't there some company that offered wargaming insurance in the UK a few years ago? I seem to remember reading about them giving some guy a cheque to replace lead lost at Derby back in the 90s.

Sorry to hear of your loss though.
