I am about to buy (and paint) a Early Achaemenid Persian army, based on Darius I. 25-28mm figures.
One of the colourful parts of this army is the Heavy Chariots. I can only find one relief of Darius I in his chariot, here.

Really? It is facing the same direction, so could you not argue that it has the same facing? I thought it was included to avoid players removing a base that was fighting a different direction.

I believe you are correct, you could have dropped a base. If I remember correctly Shock troops also do not test /charge if they will contact friends who are shock troops so the second unit would have aborted the charge.

Why? Must have overlooked that...

You break off directly to your rear and end a move away able to charge again. Obviously not possible while in two directions, so the only way to do it is to reform facing the remaining enemy and then complete the break off.

A very dodgy thing for the Cav as they will end up in a 4 deep column and the LH have a longer move chasing them and can change direction to follow

As I read it, an evading BG has the choice (players choice) whether to turn 180 degrees or 90 degrees when charged, if the evading group evades "in the direction of the charge". I don't understand why it's the players choice. E.g.:
