Well several types of "HW" are in fact weapons with several functions, including a spear-function. For example the halbred. They had/could have (depending on shaft length etc) the same functionality as other weapons included in the spears category when used to thrust. There is no reason beyond rule ...

re 1: its usually better to deploy LF in double line to reduce frontage and get more die on the target infront. LF shoot from second line aswell (but counts range from front base). The 8 LF Bow could have been deployed in 4 by 2 and get 4 dice to tagets infront of them, much simpler to target BGs ...

Re ink: use a tiny amount soap (swab the wet brush over a hard soap) or similar to break surface tension on the ink aswell.

Thanks for the comments. I agree that this may be a boring game, but it is part of an ongoing pan-europe campaign we are running, so not losing is not a bad thing as it preserves my army. that said, i am trying to find a way to "beat" him since I can take his provinces if i do.
