1 Army, Multiple Periods

Looking at the many books that are scheduled to be released.... Are there armies that have a chance of being playable/cross-over in multiple periods? Or at least close enough to be a reasonable proxy in multiple books. ie. This army of light horse and cataphracts can count as X army in Storm of Arro...

Another point to bear in mind is one of limited resources, in terms of time and manpower. Time and energy expended in one project will necessarily mean time and energy taken from another. I suspect that the priority is currently on finishing the army list books. This is a very wise thing, IMHO. Som...

This is helpful, short of being able to actually watch a game played by those who know what they are doing. (Might be nice to see a well documented AAR with the starter armiers. Hint. Hint.) I was initially visualizing the enemy rushing forth to smash themselves against the shields of my legions. I'...

Single ranked. 40mm * 20 mm. All the bases in the pictures are scaled correctly for the unit type. Notice the velite base is half the depth and same width as the commander base. Are the velites single ranked or double ranked? From your diagram it looks single ranked, but it might be just how you sho...

I would leave more space between the Hastalis and the Tiariis so that your skirmishers will be able to fit in between. So something like this, where this is room behind so they don't get stuck in front of the battleline? http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/kk194/mascius/evade1.jpg On a side note, wh...

Mid-Republican battleline +Image Test

There doesn't appear to be a specific strategy/tactics sub-board so I'm putting this here. Below is what I am thinking of for my main battleline deployment. Mid-Republican Roman starter army from the book. I believe that both the troop commander and the field commander has the entire battleline in r...

Yes. Players can certainly do it themselves. I've done DIY proxy armies in the past. However, the reviews of FoG all talk about the high production values. One of the draws of the rules are the visuals from Osprey and the great diagrams. The first post was suggesting that pdfs counters could be publ...

It's not a problem IF the owner of the copyright does it. There is a well established tradition of rules publishers that did not produce miniatures creating cardboard/paper tokens for their games. This gives players a chance to quickly play the game, like it, buy the supplements, encourage their fri...

Good link. One of his earlier posts is right on the money. http://figureativelyspeaking.blogspot.com/2007/10/blog-post.html Those are the minis in the Old Glory 15s Mid-Republican Roman starter army. Great pics and painting. I will be using that post as my painting guide. http://figureativelyspeakin...

So, taking the comments into consideration, here is my idea for a compact terrain kit... In games using the terrain setup rules, 6-10 pieces of terrain will be placed. For Rise of Rome armies Agricultural or Hilly cover all the armies in the book. 4 Open Fields areas (brown felt): Add some rocks to ...

Terrain essentials

Greetings, Starting my 15 mm terrain collection. I made two hills around 6"x8" out of hardboard and styrofoam today. Added resin rocks to one for variety. Made the hill about half the height of a 15 mm infantry figure. Any thoughts on what would be considered terrain essentials for a gamin...

What would be a good distance away for the supporting triarii? Touching, 1", 2", etc.

Would they help to the front if a BG crumbles or could they do something about a flank attack?

Mid-Republican Roman Army

Greetings, I bought the Mid-Republican Roman Starter Army from Old Glory 15s. The price was great and the quality seems pretty good to me. <rant>Why don't these sites have decent pictures of their minis? I was trying to compare quality with some of the other manufacturers but ended up deciding on pr...

Tactics: Mid-Republican Roman Starter Army

Greetings, Looking for advice from the Triarri among you. I've read through the rules and played one game of a Roman starter army versus a slighly modified Gaul starter army. Having no idea of the tactics involved in FoG, I deployed my battlegroups. 2 battlegroups of Hastati/Principes in a single ra...
