Rout Move

In the image below (hope you can see it) the bad guys in yellow have just broken my med infantry in red. http://img189.imageshack.us/img189/7053/routemove.jpg Assuming their VMD results in a roll such they can not stop short of their blue friendlies behind them... Are they forced to burst through th...

Cost VS Benefit

The key things with elephants are... and not to roll a bad death roll . Yeah, that is the nail in the coffin for elephants for me 90% of the time. I have used them about 10-12 times and I have watched elephants go pop many, many times. Often leaving a hole in my lines. Many times doing nothing to t...

Well, win or lose with the Scotish there it will at least piss off the English.

I am no expert but it was my impression that they were in the front rank. And in all hoplite-based formations in this period (that I know of, which is not much mind you) the right most position (from the soldier's perspective) was the most honorable as it lacked the protection of another's shield. I...

I have not noticed this at all and removing the +2 would destroy elephants IMO.

Re: Testing for shock troops charging without orders

The sequence is you declare a charge, then the opponent decides to evade or stand. Then you test any shock troops in their usual charge reach who are required to test. No the sequence is 1) You declare all charges you want. 2) You test for shock troups charging without orders, and units that were o...

My only gripe with elephants under FoG is that none of them shoot. I can accept that generally it is desirable not to overly differentiate elephants and to thereby perhaps magnify differences which in reality may not have been significant. But a Burmese elephant should be able to shoot to some degr...

Glass Cannons

The other thing about Elephants is often they have POAs they negate the POAs of other good troops so tend to have fairly neutral matchups. Yes, but it seems to me that a neutral match up is also about the best elephants can hope for as well. Two bad rolls in a row and the bg is dead (one in combat ...

Elephants in Column... Oh My!

In column they have less frontage and are thus less exposed to hits. But, even with only one base in contact you would still get the "-1" mod should you win the melee as the enemy is "fighting elephants". I (personally) find this tactic somewhat distasteful. I will gladly ...

Paper Steel

All of my figures are on metal bases with magnets on the bottom and I am using paper steel affixed to thin basswood cut to the required size. I tad bit pricey, but by far the best solution for my figures. The only place I have been able to find the stuff is from Renaissance Ink as it is darn hard to...

I would think not as the charge was actually declared against the spears. The knights were hit by stepping forward only. If they can't contact the unit they declared their charge upon when the time comes their entire charge is cancelled (I would think).

If the arty can see the marker...it should be revealed anyway (unless I am missing something). I have three markers and use them all in every game. Sometimes they are all dummies, but generally I have at least one marking a unit. They come in hand in allowing non-skirmishers to set up a bit farther ...

I just finished a pike block and tried to mix them a bit for that "realistic" look. Now, I wish I had not. I think they would look much better (and prob. more realistic) if I had kept them all at the same angle on each base.

My two cents,

Column?

Yes, that section is understood. I guess it just comes down to whether the "edge" of a base counts for rear support or not. If it does the case can be made in my diagram that all six bases are already behind both pike blocks...if not (as you suggest) than NEITHER of of the pike blocks woul...

Rear support for mulitple units

Does the medium foot (M) unit provide resupport for BOTH pike blocks (P and K)?

The join between the pike units splits the medium foot unit.

Thanks gents

Thanks for the pages.

I would like to say this "made the difference" and "I would have won otherwise"...but such would be a lie. I would have gotten my a$$ kicked anyway as this was on the forgotten flank of the battle. ;-)

Questions: Buying a crappy CnC and terrain placement

A couple of questions if I may: 1.) I was looking but I see nothing in the rules that says the CnC must be the "best" commander. Can you take two TC one as your CnC and a FC (basically just for flank marching)? 2.) During terrain placement you 'must' take at least two pieces of terrain. Ca...

Each file has to make contact to step forward?

A file only steps forward if it will contact enemy. Files that can't don't. Okay, I had thought this was the case but was over-ruled by an opponent and the rules simply stated (when I checked--going from memory here) that you could step forward up to 2MU <period> Our situation was like the below wi...
