FOG2 Ancients and FOG2 Medieval will not start in Steam

Possibly associated with a Steam client update today (23 April 2025)? When I start either game in Steam, the screen goes black for a few seconds, does not start, then returns to the Steam client. Other games in my library start without problems, including Slitherine games such as "Pike and Shot...

Thanks for the reply - and their "glass cannon" quality is working as designed.

Why don't close-order warbands get the +1 heavy infantry CT modifier?

While searching the forum, I couldn't find the specific "real-life" reason why close-order warbands (average or superior) do not receive the +1 heavy infantry cohesion test (CT) modifier. Is it because they're not considered formally drilled like say, Roman legionaries? In the same way tha...

Re: No light cavalry for all Scottish and late English armies?

Thank you for the information. I doubt any sources I could find would be more comprehensive than yours.

They were probably off pillaging the countryside instead of doing their jobs...

No light cavalry for all Scottish and late English armies?

Did the Scots and the late English (Tudor 1485-1500 and Yorkist 1486-1497) armies not recruit light cavalry units such as the Scottish and English Border reivers? Or were they recruited, but so unreliable that they don't appear in the lists? I know Wikipedia isn't the most comprehensive source, but ...

Re: Two units attacking one unit

I was considering buying this game but read a review criticising some of the mechanics. Primarily it stated that it was not possible to attack an enemy unit with combined arms, i.e two or more units. Having some time back played tabletop wargames with figures, one tactic was to bolster a unit's att...

Re: Setup suggesting: Adding auto-assign to commanders after selection?

Also, is there any reason to have the C-in-C in charge of more than just a single unit, to have as many units as possible subordinate both to the overall commander and one subcommander? You want the cnc in exclusive charge of zero units in fact, which can be done by shifting him to a unit that is u...

Re: Chariots in Swifter than Eagles

De Coucy, Thanks for a very interesting post - I'd wondered in passing about the mechanics of using a thrusting (not a throwing) spear from a chariot, but your mention of Wernick's article was illuminating: "K(no)w More Spears From The Backs Of Chariots: Problems With The Battle Of Kadesh’s Thr...
