Well, Julian's French accent has been a huge hit here. My girlfriend's daughter has partially completed her three characters (Whoopie Goldberg, Pablo "Julian" Picasso, and Albert Einstein, and likes Pablo the best :)

Because the Roman army of that period routinely built fortified camps at the end of each day's march when on campaign. They only varied in the depth of the ditch and height of bank depending on the level of threat.

Last weekend we played a tournament near Barcelona using FOG v1 with objectives using the following rules:

1. Pre-set terrain with initiative winner (attacker) choosing side.
2. Defender moves up to two pieces of terrain as per rule (6 becomes 5)
3. Defender places camp followed by attacker
4 ...

Depends on the scale you're playing at really. With 5000 men to a legion an 8 base BG gives you 625 men to a base.

Armies that used skirmishing tactics and feigned flight tactics would not have been phased by the entire army evading. Besides, a BG wouldn't be able to see beyond the BGs on its flank. They would have little idea of what was going on beyond their immediate vicinity. Not happy with the first idea ...

Look on the bright side, the fort isn't on a hill.
