Re: Battlefield: Europe MOD v1.8

Still thinking wheter to reduce the -5 fuel penalty at all. The loss of the Ploiesti oil fields in late August 1944 proved to be decisive. The failure of the two last German offensives, the Ardennes and Spring Awakening, were both largely due to the lack of fuel, and interestingly, both were aimed ...

Re: Battlefield: Europe MOD v1.8

Hi again, McGuba, I just finished a play-through beginning in June, 1944 and want to offer some feedback on some of the new game mechanics I noticed. 1. I liked that you gift the player under-strength units during the dying days of the war. It's fun to get to play with the "wunderweapons,"...

Re: Battlefield: Europe MOD v1.8

I've just been thinking of some other ideas for continuing to improve the scenario in 1.9 and wanted to run them by you, McGuba. 1. Simulating espionage activities (and helping the "stupid AI") In 1942 and 43, the Lucy Ring was essential in helping the Soviets anticipate and thwart German ...

Re: Battlefield: Europe MOD v1.8

Perhaps an easier solution would be to hard code the upgrades to Marders into the scenario and simply remove the option of player choice. The actual mechanics of this could be handled in a manner akin to how the Hs-129 recon planes are withdrawn and replaced by other types. These could happen in win...

Re: Battlefield: Europe MOD v1.8

By the way, i love the new units that you gift the player as the war progresses and the announcements that come at the start of almost every turn. It makes the game more immersive. Yes, I agree with JimmyC! And in my most recent playthrough it's noticeable at this point the turns that don't have so...

Re: Battlefield: Europe MOD v1.8

McGuba's latest voluminous and well reasoned reply about the need to balance historical accuracy with challenge and playability.
And this, folks, is why this mod is as good as it is.

Re: Battlefield: Europe MOD v1.8

I agree w/ Mountaineer that it would be a fun addition to the Low Countries scenario to recreate it w/ a larger map that simulates the simultaneous fleet actions in the Atlantic and the prestige-generating model of convoy raiding from the Barbarossa scenario but with the challenge of trying to keep ...

Re: Battlefield: Europe MOD v1.8

The mod is hardly dead. In fact, one of the keys to its long life and success has been McGuba's careful curation of each update. This mod has been served just as well by the modifications he hasn't made as by those he has. I hope he continues to exercise his judiciousness and restraint in making fut...

Re: Battlefield: Europe MOD v1.8

Not to answer for McGuba, but my sense is that he has been (understandably) uncomfortable about representing the activities of the SS in his mod. I would also strongly prefer he does not, and am glad he begins the scenario with reference to the removal of Germany's "leader."

Re: Battlefield: Europe MOD v1.8

Uhu, do you still play w/ the dice chess setting in achieving these aims? It's a bit of an advantage for the player and people following your strategies should know that going in.

Re: Battlefield: Europe MOD v1.8

The quick and dirty reply is to read the AARs included in the mod for advice on strategies. Specific to Malta, you'll want to transfer your Stuka w/ Rudel down to the Med during the winter months along w/ enough air support to protect his bombing runs. W/ him there I am usually able to reduce the fo...

Who needs Black Friday when Christmas presents like these come for free!

Thank you so much for your work on this, McGuba. It sounds like you've once again upped the ante on all counts. I can't wait to try it out and will, of course, give you feedback.

Re: Battlefield: Europe MOD v1.7

I like what I am hearing as the proposed changes for 1.8, and I agree that it's currently a bit too easy to maintain a powerful air force, and I think I agree that boosting the Soviet air units makes sense historically in terms of numbers and quality of opponent--and that it should have a trickle-do...

Re: Battlefield: Europe MOD v1.7

I replayed the scenario at default settings (General, AI = 2, normal dice) from the beginning and just secured a decisive victory by focusing first on the USSR and then invading England in '43. Previously, I had only been able to secure DVs through a Sealion '41, which has never been too satisfying ...

Re: Battlefield: Europe MOD v1.7

I've been unable to hold the siege myself, but I am pretty sure he said that you have to maintain units on all the required hexes for 6 turns at a minimum. That hex south of Lake Ladoga is tough! Edit: I found the post where McGuba explains the siege mechanics: The long and destructive siege of Leni...

Re: Battlefield: Europe MOD v1.6

My two cents: The Beaufighter is a tough bird and one that I avoid engaging early on in the scenario if I can avoid it. There seem to be a fair amount beyond the proportion and use (anti-nightfighting) for which they were historical deployed. But this is a minor point. Regarding the Zerstörer, I act...
