Re: Erik's campaigns, mods and multiplayer scenarios
The man in the High Castle :D
The book clearly :) Not the TV series.
Ugh, I have so many feelings about the tv series and none of them good. It hurts all the more because of how you actually had a pretty talented cast being utterly squandered. Filmed in my part of the world too, which is ...

Re: Erik's campaigns, mods and multiplayer scenarios
Yeah Parreigo did a pretty definitive take on the Eastern front, The Russian Campaign. I think his earlier versions are a bit more balanced however, as it is now the Soviets can basically just turtle and have a good chance of winning. Still wishing there was a counterfactual type multiplayer map in ...

Re: Erik's campaigns, mods and multiplayer scenarios
Both Dragoon and Nord seemed reasonable enough to me, but there's always room for improvement so no complaints!

Re: Erik's campaigns, mods and multiplayer scenarios
Joined Tarawa 1.3, ought to be interesting. I'm toying with giving Dragoon a try as well in a bit, depending on how quickly my other games wrap up.

Re: Erik's campaigns, mods and multiplayer scenarios
If we ever manage to finish the Overlord game with me as the UK, it'll definitely be the first time I save it at the end. It's that good. It's unbalanced but there's a place for unbalanced maps. If someone is new to multiplayer, have them try playing as the Axis against someone with experience. I ...

Re: I still love this game!
Goes both ways, testing scenarios is fun too after all :) It took me a bit of time to figure out the best approach for Overlord but once I got a handle on how to play (gotta be super defensive and cautious as the allies) it's amazingly fun. Definitely planning another go at Tarawa, possible some ...

Re: Erik's campaigns, mods and multiplayer scenarios
Based on the Tarawa 1.0 test game, I'm not 100 percent certain Japan needs to be nerfed. We may have simply employed a bad strategy in making dispersed rather than concentrated landings. Plus I feel like I was turning things around in the west :) That said, I'll need to try the new version and see ...

Re: Erik's campaigns, mods and multiplayer scenarios
Yeah you're normally extremely fast with your turns which is more than welcome. Maybe have some tea or healthy congee if you can get your hands on it (I am traumitized by the absense of high class authentic dim sum here in rural Canada. Traumatized, but not especially surprised). Get well soon and ...

Re: I still love this game!
There's a crazy amount of player made scenarios out there so wouldn't be surprising if there were already something along the lines of what you're asking for. Erik made an absolutely outstanding "The Pacific War" 1 vs 1 scenario for example. Heavy emphasis on naval / air aspects with a bit of land ...

Re: Erik's campaigns, mods and multiplayer scenarios
Joined a couple more of the test games :) One general thing I'd encourage for everyone setting things up is to turn on quick unit experience though. Experience is of course primarily a feature for single player campaigns, but provided you select the quick option it can play a fun role even in ...

Re: Erik's campaigns, mods and multiplayer scenarios
I think we've got a grip on surviving, which represents an improvement over my past experiences with the allies on that map :) Advancing however shall be an entirely different beast, not least in light of how determined our foes are. I've got six Overlord games going and this is the only one I'm ...

Re: Erik's campaigns, mods and multiplayer scenarios
I may get around to giving that a try once I wrap up a few more of my current games. Me and Bren having quite the time demonstrating that it absolutely is possible for the allies to win in 2.0 of Overlord, heh.

Re: Erik's campaigns, mods and multiplayer scenarios
I know my Kobayashi Maru, heh... I'd say China has the edge in that scene simply because it gets continuous reinforcements of infantry while Japan only got one splurge, as far as I remember anyway.

Re: Erik's campaigns, mods and multiplayer scenarios
The U.K. starts strong and as you say go downhill from there. The bulk of Axis reinforcements, especially armour, are in the east side of the map. The U.S. is somewhat the reverse in that they get off to a horrible start but provided they aren't entirely wiped out in the first few turns I feel they ...

Re: Erik's campaigns, mods and multiplayer scenarios
As near as I can tell, the main difference for the Axis between versions 1.4 and 2.0 is a slight reduction in requisition points per turn. Went from around 170 ish to 100 ish, I think. Personally I think this map has more potential than any I've seen from Erik in a long time, perhaps ever. In other ...

Re: Erik's campaigns, mods and multiplayer scenarios
I think version 1.3 of Overlord wasn't too bad in terms of balance. The axis had hardly any AA and minimal requisition points, but on the other hand they got a crazy amount of reinforcements and if you set up defence lines intelligently (as in far from the coast and at extreme range for aircraft ...

Re: Erik's campaigns, mods and multiplayer scenarios
Russian ladies were pretty scary in the skies though... And I think the article says most of the pictures were taken by a Soviet wartime photographer, although as you say there were a variety of sources. Actually another military thing I came across recently was identifying Italian wartime photos ...

Re: Erik's campaigns, mods and multiplayer scenarios
Just in case Erik is looking for a good source of never before seen WWII photos, there was an article I saw in The Guardian about a newly discovered source. Old Soviet propaganda pictures I believe. Some of them seem quite promising for events like the capture of a city or what not.

Re: Erik's campaigns, mods and multiplayer scenarios
Very much too early to be drawing definitive conclusions with respect to Overlord, however I will say the initial version I played (1.3?) is fascinating. Extremely tense even as I close in on the turn 20 mark, not at all sure what to make of the situation. I was initially overwhelmed by allied air ...

Re: finding other players
It's fixed now. Downtime was barely 12 hours so not too bad, although it would be nice to get advance notice for these kinds of things. I assume they're server maintenance?
