finding other players
I am curious to hear how others think about finding other players. I am becoming less inclined to just start a game that is "open" as I have had some bad experiences with players who just abandon a game when the outcome is still in doubt, yet I also like making new friends and occasionally getting whipped by strangers. I have also noticed that many MP games require passwords--suggesting an invitation list--yet languish on the "board" for weeks or longer which makes no sense if the player who set it up already had opponents in mind.

A sure-fire way is to keep checking this board for when Erik asks for volunteers to test out his new PvP scenarios.
Also check all the Parriego posts here - there's a group that plays those games regularly.
You could post on this multiplayer forum and describe what you are interested in and maybe get some responses that way.
Maybe check the Steam site and see if they have anything. I did a quick check and didn't see anything relevant, but maybe I missed it.
I don't do much with PvP any more, just help Erik and get my monthly ass-whipping from Pinkelephantis.

Re: finding other players
I too an wary of taking on random players, because almost all of them are abandoned, and I regret all the time wasted.
I will compete with you Celeborn if you like. Just PM me on any scenarios you are interested in and we can get a game going for sure.

Seems like even a lot of the more reliable, veteran players aren't doing their turns so quickly these days. Wonder if the game isn't starting to reach the end of its lifespan?

If I were a reliable veteran I would be concerned that my Yankee allies in Market-Garden are annoyed at how long I am taking

Of the ten games I've got going, you're the one holding things up in precisely zero of them so no concerns there
I admit I take my turns less quickly if I'm losing than I do if I'm winning, but once a day is about as bad as it gets. Once every two days at worst.

MULTIPLAYER SCENARIOS
I enjoyed them a lot and also got some very skilled and trustfull friends (Jan) with whom I played unforgettable battles.
Some players are talkative, some other never dare to spend a letter by chat (what a pity).
Opponents basically play one turn per day...a few can dare even 3 or 4 per day, that is - of course - my best dream.
Some players are absolutely much beyond "Deity" level...their units have superpowers (pinkelephant), no way to deal with them and I have no pleasure to challenge them a second time.
Some other players should probably open less challenges...they post ONE TURN in TEN DAYS...that's extremely annoying, especially in scenarios of 30 turns (Danuts76). (Are you going to live for a hundred of years? what a chance to end a battle with you!)
and finally....
what's WRONG WITH YOU jlgarcialopez84 ?????? you open dozen of games, I downloaded half of your scenarios and after installed your challenges still appear RED to me....this happens only with your challenges..because what I do 100% works for all other red scenarios i find in the mp list! so?
anyone ever had a chance to play against this dude?

So me for example, I work Monday to Friday and weekends help my wife run the guest house, I have mastiffs that need walking. I also like to sleep, eat and play table top miniatures.
Many here are in similar position so not all can player as regularly. Consider a 4 player game means it's even longer as you wait for your turn to come round.
1 turn in 10 days is a bit much if regular but then find another opponent. Or run more games concurrently.
As for jlgarcialopez84 's games being red I cannot say but that usually occurs if they are in the wrong location, say an extra directory step structure.

I cannot recommend highly enough Erik's 4-player Market-Garden and Battle of the Bulge scenarios.

Re: finding other players
Jgarcia does his turns at a fine rate with me, at least one per day even with extremely demanding maps. Given how well he does I almost wish he'd be slower, heh.
I'm a bit hesitant with 4 player maps simply because it's double the odds of something preventing a person doing their turn with 2 player maps. That said I have very fond memories indeed of Battle of the Bulge. Definitely one of Erik's best, and that's saying something!
