Re: Heroes. Maybe we need more?
Can't see it would break the game anymore than Dear Ollie or Super-Woodel already did. Execute Plan 66! Don't think a 4th hero would change much - on current scales, it would take 3000+ kills to qualify...how many units even in GC are going to make that?...Except maybe a couple of the scripted Jedi....

Has to be desert...if the reduced infantry movement isn't bad enough, the reduced resupply is a real killer.

Re: Allied Neutralized Pillboxes?
A bombardment will only neutralise the actual victory hex, which limits the use it may be put to. As pillboxes are units, rather than an integral part of the hex, they cannot be neutralised even though the hex they are in may be.

Re: Questions
2) Not an expert on this - But, as far as I'm aware, the combat results are calculated by looking at the difference between the relevant attack and defence value. These values are modified by a number of factors such as experience, heroes, terrain, weather etc. The modified difference then becomes a...

1) On the main menu page ( the one with 'New Game' , 'Load Game' etc ) There is a copyright declaration in small print at the bottom of the page - just above the flags. The bottom line of that tells you your current version number.

Re: Playing the AI - battle proven tricks
And of course: The 'Bite the Baiter' Bait : The human player is prone to using all kinds of traps to lure our AI colleagues into unwise advances and attacks. They can often overlook the fact that if these units survive, they can spot such delicacies as exposed artillery and motor transport that your...

And a couple from the 'Other side of the hill' 'The 'Hold Position/Passive Bait' : These units can neither move nor initiate combat. However, human players are prone to forget that they *can* spot perfectly well. Wait until he casually motors his pioneers and artillery right up to a city in ...

Re: Various Bugs
Please forgive the stupid question, but does this problem occur with all your fighters - the Bf109. for example, or just with fighter-bombers like the Bf110 and later types of FW190?

Re: Allied Grand campaign discussion thread
They may well move onto something else, but it's unlikely to be anything like the game-changing monster that the current Churchill is. The British don't really get any potential uber-armour until the Firefly and the Crocodile turn up in 1944. Part of the problem, perhaps, is that the alternatives te...

Re: Allied Grand campaign discussion thread
With regard to Churchill spamming, one way to mitigate it is to revisit some of the extremely generous ratings. In reality, the Churchill was a mechanical nightmare. While respected for its thick armour and truly righteous ability in bad terrain, it was no faster than the Matilda and Valentine it re...

Re: Allied Grand campaign discussion thread
If an earlier start than Norway is desired, there's always the (historically abandoned) British scheme to aid Finland in the Winter War. It could be a way to start developing a smallish core before the historical war campaigns.

Re: Russian Tanks in Soviet Corps
Maybe one way of doing it would be to look at the unit initiative values. At present, they seem to represent nothing more than the size of the gun and take no account of such things as tactical doctrine, availability of radios and vehicle design (three man turret vs one or two man turret, for exampl...

Re: What is best tactic in bad weather?
For the AI rain is a great combat leveller, especially in the early years. The initiative cap makes attacks much more attractive, so I kind of operate on the assumption that anything that can attack me, will. It depends on the situation - whether I'm attacking or defending, pressed for time or not o...

Re: Various improvements suggestions
Another vote for removing 'Spot' heroes as an option for artillery, please. I'm not any kind of computer programmer, but surely if the code can offer 'Range' as an additional hero option for artillery, it could have been possible to have it in place of 'Spot', rather than being added to the list. Un...

Re: Allied Grand campaign discussion thread
Hi :) An Allied GC is something I've been looking forward to, so it's nice to see it's being talked about. Just some random thoughts: I'd agree that 'Free' contingents need to be in there somewhere. One of the great things about AC was that some SE units were unique nopurchase units, rather than bei...

Re: Core Units Not Carrying Over
Or in this case, the problem might be that 'the northernmost port' is Namsos...and the scenario victory conditions only require you to take all VH's 'except Namsos.' So to clear that map, you have to hold off occupying one of the southern VH's as above, until you've taken Namsos.

Re: Core Units Not Carrying Over
The only objectives you *have* to take are those with a shiny border around them, the 'victory hexes'. Once you've taken all of those, the scenario will end even if there are still lesser objectives held by the enemy. If you want to continue a scenario to the bitter end and clear the map for extra p...

Re: Terrible magically spawning enemy in Afrika Corps Palest
As far as I can figure, the logic to having these counter-attack reinforcements appear mid-game is to prevent the player's air units from shooting and bombing them to oblivion long before their activation is triggered.

Re: Terrible magically spawning enemy in Afrika Corps Palest
As far as I'm aware, the rules on new units and pre-programmed reinforcements differ, but are the same for both AI and player. Where the player or AI buys a new unit, these cannot be used in the turn that they are placed - except the player can buy and place them any time in his turn while the AI bu...

Re: Morale
You could, if you wish, regard the heroes system as an abstract form of representing morale. For example, that +3 attack or defence hero doesn't literally represent one guy with the firepower of half a battalion or a bulletproof skin, no more than a +1 move hero represents one guy who can magically ...
