Where are the SU-85 and SU-100 in Soviet Corps?

Post by TigerTiger007 »

I have been enjoying Soviet Corps, but it is missing some of the better known Russian tank destroyers. I am up to Dneiper in the game and still have the AT-1. I do not see the SU-85 or the SU-100 which were both based on the T-34 chassis. They let me have the SU-122 but as an artillery/tank destroyer combo.

Also, is the Tiger the only captured piece we get? Nothing for taking other cities like in Afrika Corps or the Grand Campaign?

You get a Fw190 at Caucasus. That's the only one I've managed so far (up to Stalingrad)

They are coming, although personally, the T34/85 is good enough for me.

My favorite AT is the ISU-122.

Finished the campaign w/o ever bothering with any other AT.

The SU-100 was only first used in 1944 IIRC. Forgot what the 85 looks like (and hence when it started murdering me in GC), but it is possibly a similar time.

Always loved the SU-85's back in the old Panzer Blitz days. Think they were out by '43 if not a bit earlier.

Yes, halfway through the scenario I was able to upgrade my tank destroyers. I was surprised to see the SU-152 released before the SU-85 and SU-100. IIRC in real life the SU-85 came out in 42/43 and the SU-152 WAY later. That is what threw me off when I originally posted this. In fact they had an SU-76 before the SU-85 that was used mainly as a TD and not artillery like shown in the game. Still, it is fun and I am enjoying it.

Just dug out my book on Soviet armor and the SU-85 was developed in 1942, and put into battle in mid-1943. It used the SU-122 chassis, based on the T-34, and had an 85mm anti-tank gun fixed to it.

First Soviet AT SPGs were SU-76 and Su-122. Former was turretless light tank using barrel of 76-mm field/AT gun (known as USV or ZiS-3 as towed versions), while latter was simplified T-34 using M-30 122-mm gun as main armament. No turret there too, of course. Both went into production in the middle of 1942.
Year later SU-122 were replaced in production with SU-85, which had the same chassis, but switched from 122-mm howitzer to 85-mm cannon to improve their performance as TDs.
SU-152 production line came online in spring of 1943. Some people say SU-152 was designed as bunker-buster, while others claim it was ordered having Tigers in mind. Anyways, 152-mm HE shells, weighting 40 kg, were quite effective tool for negotiation with any opponent, be it dug in infantry, concrete bunker, 60-tonn heavily armored beast from nazi panzer zoo or several-story building.

I still have that nuke unit. I think that would be a suitable argument against the 152mm gun.

Nuke unit? What nuke unit?
BTW, here is a nuke shell for ya'. And note, that SU-152 actually CAN shoot it, as it was designed for ML-20, among others.

SU-100 came to life in 1944 when DT-10 gun was invented. So it appears in the Budapest scenario. As for Su-85.. I don't remember, I think they're absent in the game, just like Churchills do
