Scenario Editor Help

Post by Jester09 »

Hi all! Ive started playing around with the Scenario Editor and have a few questions. I have read the PDF manual but it doenst address my issues ( or Im too dense to see that it does  ). To give you a bit of background. I am grabbing existing maps, removing units and making small landscape changes for a buddy and I to play via MP. We buy our own troops and go from duke it out

1) In a one off game (not a campaign game), is there a way to make deployment zones on empty hexes? The only way Ive been able to add "deployment zones" is to add a city with the nation flag.

2) How do I adjust the Victory Conditions? The latest ive made is a copy of one that had the victory conditions of 4 objectives (Flags for this scenario). Ive gone into the Victory Conditions Tab in the Scenario Parameters window and edited the lines where it had 4 in the Edit Trigger sub window. Both allied and allies now have 6 in the "Flags" field. Yet when I launch the scenario, the splash screen still shows 4 (and I just tested it out, counts the game for 4, not 6).

Any help would be greatly appreciated. If there is a more in-depth manual that would be fine as well.

Thanks so much!!

Lots of the editor is easy once you know how, but finding out how to do things is rarely easy and can be quite a mission. Here's what I've learned from reading many many posts and from quite a lot of trying things out.

You can create deployment hexes using Special Hexes list (the one that starts with blued out neutral hexes and the yellow victory hex border). Scroll down and you get to small light grey (axis) and light green(allied) tank and plane icons. These mark your deployment hexes for tanks and planes. Select the icon and left click and you should have a deployment marker. Right click to remove one.

Victory conditions are set in Scenario parameters. You can have some fancy combinations by this time, if you have this hex and have eliminated these units. But that's very hard to describe. Time is often expressed as 1, -1, which means any time between first turn and final turn, or -1, -1 which means final turn to final turn (ie end of the game). To convert 1 to -1, delete 1, type -1. It sounds easy but took me about two days to make it work!

Map conditions set the number of allied (or axis) flags or units in victory hexes or in a particular zone that trigger a win or a loss - eg number of axis flags in whole map is 10, or number of allied flags in whole map is no more than 3. This control also allows you set conditions relating to special units (with a white border). Select a unit, shift left click and you can set various properties - including Special and name (eg General Smart). You can then set a victory condition as number of allied units on whole map with name "General Smart" must exceed 1, for an allied win, and 0 for an axis win, or maybe you have to move him to Zone 1, so it's Number of units in Zone 1 with name "General Smart" is equal to 1" If he's there, you get your victory, if not you lose. If you want to set a mission to get units to hexes marked a or b or c, the visible features are listed under Markers, to identify the approprieta zone.

Once you have learnt how to do some basic victory conditions, it is possible to open other scenarios to read the victory conditions and scripts - since you need to click Edit, you might want to make a copy of the DLC before exploring, so you don't accidentally set an axis victory condition to eliminate all axis units in one of the Afrika Korps missions or something equally embarrassing.

That's about as much as I know - I hope it helps. I'm still waiting for a clear explanation of how to use Tags and secondary objectives, so hopefully someone better informed will help out either with advice or a link to one of the vast number of helpful posts.

Hi Jester09, I'm not very experienced with scenario editing, but I know a few answers:
Jester09 wrote:1) In a one off game (not a campaign game), is there a way to make deployment zones on empty hexes? The only way Ive been able to add "deployment zones" is to add a city with the nation flag.
If you are in the editor, select the 'Edit' menu, in the pull-down list select the 'Special Hexes' option. Make sure you've also selected (flagged) the same option in the 'View' pull-down menu, so they will be shown on the map in the editor.

At the left edge of the editor screen, there should now be a column of symbols, starting with a few hex outlines. The third to sixth symbols are grey and green little tanks and airplanes with a small arrow below it. These are deployment hexes for Axis (grey) and Allied (green), for land units (tank) and air units (plane).

You can select these symbols, they should get a blue box when you click on them in the list to show they are now active. Select the one you need, and if you then click on a hex on the map it will place a deployment hex on the map (right-click to remove them again), the little symbol will be shown on the terrain. You can place land/air deployment hexes on top of each other.
This is a bit difficult to answer without seeing the scenario myself, but to help out with some basic troubleshooting, here is a first step:

there can be separate victory conditions for the scenario when played in a campaign or as a separate scenario. If you play MP you need to change the second set of conditions (everything below "- Scenario Conditions - "), this might be the problem in your case, as it sounds your changes should work.

If you keep having trouble, just try to post more details or zip up the modded scenario file and attach it to your post, so I can have a look at it.

Hallo,

das Problem habe ich auch, ich erstelle ein Szenario mit den Aufstellungsfeldern, aber im Spiel kann ich meine gekauften Einheiten nicht aufstellen.
Könnt Ihr mir bitte weiterhelfen?
