Funky Battlelines and Second Moves
Hi,
Another one from last night.
A collection of BGs meet all the criteria for a battleline. All manoeuvres in this example take place more than 6MUs from enemy.
A BG on the end of the BL passes a CMT and contracts its two outermost bases. The collection of BGs still meet the criteria for a BL.
Can the BL now make a second move (a simple advance)?
We played yes, but some might argue that the BL hasn't actually made a first move!

Hi Steve ,
normally possible as a battle line if it fulfil the conditions for a second simple move allowance bottom of the page 36, see also page 19 the points to note on the CMT paragraph for the first move or manoeuvre;
hope it helps and not put more confusion in minds

No. Another point for the FAQ.

Thanks again Richard, we thought so too.
Hi TFJ,
No the page 19 bit doesn't help in this case, sorry. The CMT in my example was taken by the outermost BG, not the BL and it was performing a move that a BL could not. Therefore, the question is whether a second move applies to the BL given that it hasn't made a first move as a BL.

Hi Hammy,
Not sure how sequence helps here. A BL exists. A BG at the end of it does a move. The BL still exists, i.e. not formed by the first move. The BL then wants to do a simple advance as a second move.
Richard has indicated no, which is just fine. The problem we had was that it was only through convoluted semantics that the second move seems to be forbidden, i.e. it's not a second move for the entirety of the BL.
Cheers,
Steve
