Terrain - Roads & Rivers

Post by petedalby »

I'm delighted to see the proposed change to Roads in V2.0 - thank you.

Could we also have the ability for terrain to touch a River please? This would stop rivers being used as a terrain blocker in the same way that roads are.

So on a die roll of 3 or 4 it would read - 'Touching a side edge, coastline or river - x half'

Or maybe make it 4,5,6 to take the river off

Is there even a point to roads with the new change?

I doubt I will ever see one on the table again after this.

Note that I do not necessarily disagree with the change, but I am usually a proponent of the idea that if something doesn't have a use in the game then there's not much point in even including it.

Yes - it uses up a terrain choice if you wish to avoid terrain - and it remains helpful in helping to move a column up a road quicker.

But loads of battles were fought near Rivers - so not what I'm looking for at all.

The issue I have is that Rivers flow through all sorts of terrain in the real world but in the FoG world they don't / can't.

Hence the very simple fix / suggestion.

Roads go through all sorts of terrain in the real world too, but in FOG they don't/can't.

I have the sneaking suspicion this argument has been had before!

It can already end up touching a river after slide.

Indeed it has. The reason for not allowing them to do so was to avoid problems with all the beautiful terrain pieces that all you guys were going to be using for FOG, by not having roads overlaying other pieces.

I will leave you to judge how successful that has been in encouraging better-looking terrain.

Well, we tried.

I appreciate the effort to de-felt the terrain. But that was not a sufficient move ever. Sorry.

The biggest step was toward less fiddily measuring which you got closer to.

But still no reason why terrain can't touch a river in the same way it can touch a coast?
