I didn’t quite get it, even though I’ve completed the mission objectives! I destroyed the depots (3 of them), all the checkpoints, plus the enemy’s artillery along with 3 tanks, but I’m not even being awarded a simple victory! Or do I also need to destroy the Buk missile systems, and to achieve a decisive victory, I have to do all this by turn 24!
You're right; there was a pop-up message indicating that the three Buks also had to be destroyed. Unfortunately, I didn't include that on the turn-transition screen since it was a notification mid-mission.

And actually, it is possible to do it in 24 turns
Generally, the time limit for a decisive victory is based on how long it took me to complete the scenario during initial testing. I then add some extra time for a normal victory so that players who didn't design the scenario can finish it without feeling *too* rushed.

For this scenario, the best approach is to focus on two zones initially and then throw everything at the third zone once the others are sorted out; but don't try to handle everything at once.
Use Apaches primarily in the central zone to deal with the tanks, while B-1s work very well against all target types. EA-6Bs are ideal for taking out air-defense assets right before the B-1s move in to finish them. Don't use more than two reconnaissance aircraft, preferably armed ones (the Harrier is excellent for this). The first tracks tank movements in central zone, while the second should spots all stationary targets on other zones; once that's done, it can go destroy the supply depots (soft targets that cannot regenerate) near Al-Baghuz.

I’ve just released a small update for the first American chapter.

- Notably, I’ve fixed a bug that sometimes caused an automatic victory at the start of the 7th scenario.
- I also fixed a bug where flags captured by allied special forces units during the 8th scenario didn't count towards the capture objectives.
- Finally, winning the first chapter now awards more prestige points for the second chapter.

I am continuing my investigations

I can’t see an updated link to the first chapter on the US section for 22 September! Last edited on 1 8! So does that mean we have to destroy the Buk air defence system as well as everything else!?

Actually, I never change the links. All the links for a campaign remain the same; I simply update the downloadable file at the destination

That said, this reminds me that I haven't updated the "latest updates" box at the top of the first post. I need to make sure I note that.

Come to think of it, since this is only the fifth scenario of the campaign : should I simplify things by making the destruction of anti-aircraft targets optional?

Let’s keep this objective of destroying 3 RZK Cub units – just include it in the mission as a condition, and give some bonuses to those who have the patience ) If I hadn’t got so hung up on Shilka as well, I’d have easily managed to secure a decisive victory! But I took my time, and everyone’s still alive. Now a new adventure awaits me with my Kurdish vassals against the tenacious and fanatically motivated lads from ISIL.

So, I helped my Kurdish allies fight back, but for some reason I wasn’t awarded a decisive victory, even though I didn’t lose a single key location – apart from a few minor towns, which I later brought back under my control. Moving on, I understand I now have to launch a counter-attack against the ISIL fighters. As always, you’ll find more details in the screenshots and the replay. To be continued!

It’s a shame that my American Cold War-era tank was lost whilst fighting for its new oil-rich homeland in the name of democracy, in an epic tank battle against ISIL armoured vehicles! But now we’ve been given the chance to buy Abrams tanks.
