Btw, since many of the GJS'44 guys are already playing Carpiquet (in the Normandy Ninjas tourney) it would be fair for you to familiarise yourself with it too, if you wished to? I'm not guaranteeing that it won't change (right now, it's proving impossible to crack, but I have some evil tactics that I'm working on) but, in general, Carpiquet will look a lot like it does in Ninjas...

Sensible of you not to join the Tourney. The sheer number of units in Carpiquet (64 for Allies vs 48 for Germans) is making turns as insane as Ortona (at least at the beginning; they die quite fast)... but the balance of lots of infantry with not so many tanks feels realistic...
Meanwhile, clash of the titans, Mlazar v Hidde seems to be gaining momentum... I feel a PM battle coming on in the not too distant future?

Some of us are playing the Carpiquet airfield map in the Normandy Ninjas tourney... The map itself is challenging, at least it is from the direction that the Allies come at it for the tourney (but you guys are all experts at picking the best approach routes to target sectors by now, right?).
However, other than the problems posed by the map/approach, an important issue is that Tigers and Panthers working as a team completely outclass the Allied tanks, despite giving the Allies significant numerical superiority (24 Allied tanks to 8 Germans in the tourney game).

In reality, this would increase the maximum number of Typhoon strikes per 20 turn battle, from 5 strikes (3 turn wait, plus 1 turn assignment, divided into 20) to 6 (2 turn wait, plus 1 turn assignment), but over the course of the campaign these extra strikes should be worth having. Sometimes they get shot down. Sometimes they do nothing except miss and reveal recon. Sometimes, as in a current game with Arcticpost, he can bag a Tiger and a Panther at the same time, because I was foolish enough to park them back to back...

But seriously...as a German I'm not in favor for it. As a Allied, I can see the value in the extra flight.
Ok, so I vote yes, provisionally. I would like to see the Germans have an extra AA added for a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 3

PS. Not that I'm giving advice or anything, but ways to lighten the impact of Typhoons (or Fw190s)
(i) Keep 88s and Wirbelwinds/M16AAs close to important clusters of ground troops
(ii) Despite above, DON'T CLUSTER ground troops. Leave at least 2 empty spaces between anything, whenever you suspect an airstrike is coming
(iii) Keep infantry/support kit under cover, bunkers (68-80%), trees (55%), mud or rough ground (48%)
(iv) Fortifications offer extra protection against bombardments
Usually air strikes suppress, rather than kill... However, Al, you do seem to have a few "special pilots" who do rather better whenever I fight you...

It bugs me that both his mortars seems to survive. Almost killed one and pretty sure I hurt the other one as well...

Those of you who joined our Normandy Ninjas GJS'44 Tourney will realise that the Allies, ahem, hit a brick wall in Carpiquet (sorry, awful pun, I admit

So, guru mod-developer, Amaris* & I, have been experimenting with adding new functionality to create "Improved Engineers" genuinely worthy of the name...
After hitting some technical issues with the way that BA handles MP, I believe that Amaris has finally cracked it...
So we can now deliver to you, Brit and German engineers with the following abilities...
(i) Cut down trees (cuts 'em to a sort of marshy vegetation, which is still impenetrable to vehicles) - 1 turn
(ii) Clear marsh (which combined with i above, enables a 2-turn removal of trees that vehicles can pass thru) - 1 turn
(iii) Build tank trap - 1 turn
(iv) Demolish tank trap - 1 turn
(v) Blow up hedgerow/walls - 1 turn
Your engineer needs 16 AP points (ie. has to be full health, before moving) to execute any of these actions
The question is... would you like to include these Improved Engineers in GJS'44?
As things stand in our OOB, the Allies have (or will receive) 70 engineers, the Germans 44... If everyone agrees to the mod, I'll balance that a little, by swapping 12 German infantry to engineers... to keep a 5-to-4 engineer advantage for the Allies, who are the attackers after all...
