FOGR Sunday events at Oxford 2023

Post by tjelsworth »

All,

Here are some ideas for next year. May we discuss please when we meet on 18 December.

Idea 1 - a bit radical

We each have 2600 army points, any list or from a particular campaign such as ECW. In any one event we can use any number up to 750 and once used they are gone.

Bonuses are scored in each round as follows

Winning 25-0 with smaller numbers, at least by 10%, bonus of 15

Winning less than 25-0 with smaller numbers, at least by 10%, bonus of 10

Drawing as above , bonus of 5

There are also bonuses for first and second place in each event,

First event 10 and 5

Second event 15 and 10

Third event 20 and 15

Fourth event 30 and 20

All these bonuses are carried forward to the next event to amass an overall score to win the campaign at year end. Perhaps bonuses could also be traded in to reacquire some used up army points?

One of the rounds could be 25mm

Ideas 2 events are separate as now

Theme by dates in narrow bands but spread over the period 1500 to 1699

Theme by conflict, including ECW

Theme by weapon system

Open competitions but with a handicapping system according to player standing this year

We could offer two 25mm comps, perhaps by increasing the number of events to 5.

Any views @nyone? Bring your ideas.

Dear all,

here are ideas for next year following discussions with everyone who was at the 18th December event.

1. a new twist for the new year, we shall total scores over the whole year so that as well as a winner for each event we get a victor ludorum (from amongst those present at the fianl event of the year I guess).

2. Themes suggested were - any final views and/or tweaks?

Europe to 1599 - 15mm
Europe 1600 to 1650 - 15mm
Not Europe and not Japan any date - 15mm
Open - 25mm

3. Dates in the OWS diary are as follows - any views on which themes might go on which dates?

12th March,
11th June
10th September
17th December

Please all remember to look at the Forum as I shall use that mainly, hoping always to pull new people in.

A new twist for the new year, we shall total scores over the whole year so that as well as a winner for each event we get a victor ludorum (chosen only from amongst those present at the final event of the year). Score totals will be posted on the Forum as we go through the year.

Schedule of events 2023

12th March, Europe to 1599 - 15mm
11th June, Europe 1600 to 1650 - 15mm
10th September, Not Europe and not Japan any date - 15mm
17th December, Europe 1600 to 1650 – 25mm

Format of the day and the games.

Deployment on 5X3 tables for 15mm games
Flank zone will be 10MU wide, rear zone will be 4 MU deep.
Deployment depth will be 10MU for battle troops and 15MU for light troops

Terrain:
Players create terrain using the normal rules but number of extra pieces is reduced to a maximum of 3.

Deployment on 6X4 tables for 25mm games is standard except that camps are reduced to half normal depth

Timetable for the games: -
1st Round 9.00am to 11.30am
30-minute break
2nd Round 12.00 am to 2.30pm
30 -minute break
3rd Round 3.00 pm to 5.30pm (we only have the hall until 6.00pm)
Rules additions to main set
• Army lists may exceed 650 points by the cost of the cheapest base used.
• Any heavy artillery used must be the first battlegroup(s) deployed, followed immediately by any medium artillery used.
• Dragoons making any move including an evade starting or ending within 6MU of the enemy, may make a full dragoon mounted move if they pass a CMT. If they make a move which would be longer than that allowed to dragoons on foot they may shoot, but as Carbines (in range and effect) not as Muskets.
• Cavalry that pass a CMT can either move 2MU and turn 180 or turn 180 and move 2MU or turn 180 move 2MU and turnback 180.

Game schedules if numbers of entrants low:
If there are 4 players the event will be a round robin using the existing schedule above.
1st round 0900 to 1130: 1vs2, 3vs4,
2nd round 1200 to 1430: 1vs3, 2vs4,
3rd round 1500 to 1730: 1vs4, 2vs3,
If there are 5 players the event will be a round robin of 5 rounds as follows. Games will be reduced to 600 points
1st round 0900 to 1030: 1vs2, 3vs4, 5 bye
2nd round 1045 to 1215: 1vs3, 2vs5, 4 bye
3rd round 1230 to 1400: 1vs5, 2vs4, 3 bye
4th round 1415 to 1545: 1vs4, 3vs5, 2 bye
5th round 1600 to 1730: 2vs3, 4vs5, 1 bye

Fees
These meetings are being held on regular Oxford club Sundays (hence limited spaces). Price for the day, to include tea, coffee etc and to fund prizes is £10 payable on the day.

Of course, if anyone spots a major blooper they will change! So please speak up.

We look forward to seeing you all again at the first event on 12th March - Europe to 1599 using 15mm figures.
