Are there FoG-groupes in Italy? How come we don't have any up here? What are we doing wrong?
I blame Ogge.
I blame the fool who's taking Carthaginians to Rome...

Yah! I'm the only aussie at Rome! Even if I get completely smashed I can say that I was the top ranked aussie.

Going to be half brain dead though, I will have only arrived in Europe a couple of days earlier. Hope there is a good barrista nearby, going to need a ristretto to get the brain firing.

Looking forward to meeting many of you who I've seen posting on the forums.

It would have been worse to take the Gallic Senoni tribe, the Visigoths or the Landscheknets! (or how it's spelled...)
Good choice for everybody, I surely think that it would be a pleasant tournament in a beautiful location.
Happy to meet you next week :)

Lists by book:

Rise of Rome 4
Storm of Arrows 5
Immortal Fire 2
Swords and Scimitars 2
Legions Triumphant 4
Eternal Empire 9
Decline and Fall 2
Wolves from the Sea 2

All books except one represented, and a fairly good mix between the books too. The two books that stand out are Swifter than Eagles, being the on without representation, and Eternal Empire, having 9 participating armies.

As per my email to everyone, there is no seeding, so I had intended to do a random draw for the first round. Matteo has
suggested doing the first draw by army date. Anyone else have an opinion on that? If a lot say "yes please" it would be
no problem for me to do; I know a lot of players like historical match-ups where possible.

Regards,
Peter

I would prefer random.

We don't want any of this historical nonsense getting in the way...

no problem for an army-date based first round. But, whethever criteria you choose, I think It would be better avoid same nation match!

What do you think about?

Hard to avoid if you are Italian. Unless you mean same army match up.

Random matchups tend to produce more telling results in the first round as the armies are not designed to fight each other. So big wins. Historical match ups produce lots of same v's same so more draws.

On a good/bad point (depending on your opinion of seeding), this is like anti-seeding as the good players should have chosen the better armies, so they will more likely face each other in the first round.

As there are only a maximum of 2 of any army, I can easily avoid them playing each other in the first round, if that is a concern.
Although historically civil wars have always been popular :)

This should just about conclusively prove that combined rankings don't work :)

Whenever I tried to get Tim Porters Ranking it just returned 666. How strange. Only one Dominate Roman - I am presuming it is the 19 BG Monster.

Good spread of armies - six armies picked twice being the most popular vote. Haven't bothered to break it down by book...
Hi Dave,
Italian ranking hasn't updated after a tournament in May. So I guess also the international one for Italians players (Peter ...........)

Me too I presume the monster with 19 BG's (if I'm not wrong the armies won Britcon 2008) ................ so it could be great playing against him in Steppe or agricultural.
Me too I expected more Romans armies ......... strange :?

As a personnal preference I would not like to play against another Catalan army, as I think its a very good army. But playing in period, with armies designed to fight each other, is a better way as it means if 2 closely matched armies play good play is more important than army

I completely agree with you and Gug, historical matches (on the basis of the Army Books) should be more balanced for the first round, even if each player would predict the opponenet checking the list of the players (for example Dominate Roman vs Principate Roman)

What do you think of this proposal:

the night of the 9th all the FOG players will go in a pub for making a race, Italians can drink only beer  and players from other countries only Italian red wine or grappa   .
The rankig of this race (the one who drinks more will be the winner and each player will receive points on the basis of how much he will able to drink  ) will be used for the first bound

I think I'd be more than happy with that. A nice early start to sort the men from the boys. Thats providing italians actually can drink.
