Battle phase of spring, year 1 (round 1)

Battles to be resolved by Oct. 2 at the latest. (Depending on when all battles are resolved, we may kickstart round 2 earlier than the scheduled Oct. 4.)

Army lists
  • All players use the Roman 24 BC – 196 AD army list.
  • However, the Praetorian Guard unit may only be deployed for battle by the player controlling Italia (I).
  • Apart from that, all units in the Roman 24 BC – 196 AD army list are freely available to deploy (other than the standard in-game limitations on numbers, etc.).
A quick reminder of the battle rules this first round
  • Each attack takes the form of a Custom Battle - Remove the Head with Large (1600 FP) force size, Wide map size, and map type depending on the attacked province.
  • The defender decides the map type from among the alternatives for the attacked province in question (as specified in the specifications of provinces).
  • No map re-rolls will be made.
  • The defender is the one creating the challenge in the FoG2 Multiplayer Lobby (always password: TYME) and always with defender as Side B (in order for the other player to immediately be able to deploy and make first round when accepting the challenge).
A quick reminder (also this first round) of the following battles to be resolved
DanZanzibar attacks random27 in Pannonia (III)
Tomoegozen (with Arab allies) attacks Warg1 in Cappadocia (XIV)
Warg1 (with Armenian allies) attacks XLegione in Graecia et Thracia (VII)
random27 (with Germanic Foot Tribes allies) attacks pompeytheflatulent in Britannia (X)
Doyley50 attacks pompeytheflatulent in Gallia (IV)
rs2excelsior attacks Doyley50 in Lusitania et Baetica (XII)
kronenblatt attacks rs2excelsior in Africa (V)

Defenders: please PM attacker when challenge has been issued, and please report battle result (once resolved) in a new post in this thread.

Thanks and enjoy!

Battle Result

warg1 defeats TomoeGozen 63 - 49

A real blood bath in Cappadocia as the invaders from Syria et Arabia were sent home tae think again. The battle was set for a draw but a late surge and some fortuitous dice help the home town Cappadocians get over the line. Thanks TomoeGozen for a great game.. I look forward to future battles.

Excellent: thanks for reports! With these two battle reports, the map would currently look as follows, with:

Warg1 gaining Syria et Arabia from TomoeGozen.
pompeytheflatulent gaining Tarraconensis from Doyley50 .

Green is not the new black at the moment.

The first general has fallen prey to the perils of usurpation! rs2excelsior Augustus was killed in the cavalry fight at the beginning of the battle with kronenblatt, at 6%-0% casualties. rs2excelsior's attack on Doyley50's Lusitania et Baetica (XII) is therefore cancelled, and kronenblatt gains Africa (V) and Mauretania (XIII).

Alas, Augustus Libernius Tiberius Excelsior Optatus got too confident, personally leading the charge against the Cyrenaicans. As enemy light cavalry hounded the flanks, he pressed forwards, past his own cavalrymen, and found himself surrounded by the enemy and cut down. The general on the field was quick to negotiate a surrender to their opponents, and will be happy to serve their new Augustus, all the way to Italy!

Pity this came to such an abrupt end! It's a fun tournament idea, I will definitely be around to give it another go if it happens again!

Hey Andreas - I hate to do this but I’m dealing with a much reduced capacity for playing time right now and am finding it difficult to maintain many games at all. At most I’m getting time for one turn a day right now and don’t want to be slowing down the tourney. Would it be all right perhaps to allow rs2 to take over my faction after my first battle is done?

And maybe even if random27 would agree rs2 and he could restart the current battle...? We have only got a few turns in and no contact has been made. I would play it out if you and random would prefer but it may actually be finished sooner with rs2 taking over and restarting it. Again, sorry for the issue but I would hate to hold things up.

Absolutely: no problem, my friend. Hope it gets better soon.

What a comeback, rs2: ready? :) (You're not out to get me and get Africa just for eliminating that old Augustus Libernius Tiberius Excelsior Optatus, right? Look at it the positive way: it was a genuine Gustavus Adolphus way of death!).

Good with me! Man, right into Italy...

random, I'm good to re-start the battle if you are. Let me know how you want to play it.

No hard feelings kronenblatt, ol' Libernius went down fighting. His son (who fled to Italy and joined Zanzibarius's faction shortly before the latter's untimely and suspicious death, which Libernius the younger cannot be conclusively proven to have had anything to do with) never really cared for the old man anyway. Old fuddy-duddy with weird notions of honor who never let him go out drinking with his friends :P

What do you say, random? rs2 is taking over from DanZanzibar, and the attack upon your Pannonia from Dalmatia. Would you be fine restarting the battle, in Pannonia, with you as defender and rs2 as attacker? Then set up the challenge for rs2 please.

Excellent, welcome back! Please note that as controller of Italia, you can (and are the only player who is allowed to) recruit the Praetorian Guard unit. :)
