So in practical terms "with" means "in the same move as" in that setnence?

I agree with Mr Dalby. Although playing with Hammy I play it Hammy's way as its easier than a discussion most of the time. So we are both cheating each other, and cheaters only cheat themselves. So it cancels out really.
Does this mean that everyone who's been through the Manchester FOG Bootcamp has a similar misunderstanding?

I think a bit of confusion could have been fixed by changing the name a simple advance into an ordinary advance. The simple advance and simple move gets people forgetful to look at the clarifying text.

It would if we had gone into that level of detail ;)

Most people were happy enough to be able to get the basics of movement and combat.

They do indeed. That's what I said
But shifts are permitted with turns during an evasion move, as per example on page 166. That's the only case in which shifts, turns and wheel are permitted. Correct?

Correct

Evade moves are different to voluntary movement.
