harveylh - Andalusian 756-1049AD defeats youngr - Arab, North Africa 789-999AD with Byzantine allies 963-987AD, 41-6
On a battlefield with enough woods and rough terrain to hamper the cavalry on both sides, the Andalusian infantry outfought the Arab and Byzantine infantry. Thanks for the game.

vvanttin (Germanic Horse Tribes with Dacians) beat Macedonczyk (Jewish Revolt) 40-14
In Alternate Timeline D, Vandals and Jews were fighting over the carcass of the Eastern Roman dominion. In the end, Jews were exiled to Palestine, and Vandals ruled until overthrown by Arab Conquest in the Early Middle Ages. The site of the battle is still today littered with arrowheads, bullets and skirmisher bones.

Division D
Macedonczyk (Jewish) beat Barrold713 (Dacian with Sarmatian) 46-10
The plain map wasn't very good for my troops (only medium, no horses) but I managed to get to near the forest on the right side which was a protection from horse attacks (and bloody battle of skirmishes). My movement also caused a little confusion in the enemy formation(which had to turn 90degree) which facilitated the victory.

The Romans broke both a phalanx and a lancer unit on the last turn as the sun was setting to eke out a close win. Tough and good game.

Division B
Schweetness101 - Carthaginian 235-146BC with Spanish allies 300-10BC defeated lydianed - Roman 219-200BC with Greek allies 227-146BC 64 - 44
This was a very close battle with a big turn around for Carthage. Carthage tried maxing lights and cavalry, but their javelins couldn't compete with the roman velites, and they were disrupted with shooting, chased down and broken rapidly. Carthage was down around 20-0 right off the bat. The Romans then advanced on the Carthaginian hill, confident in outnumbering the Carthaginians, but in a very wide formation. As a last ditch hail mary, Carthage withdrew most of the left wing off the hill and backwards, and attacked in concentration on the right, managing to break enough Romans there to turn the tide before the whole wide roman line could come in and participate.

Division B
Schweetness101 - Carthaginian 235-146BC with Spanish allies 300-10BC defeated edb1815 - Carthaginian (Hannibal in Africa) 202BC 58 - 32
Hannibal in Africa deployed a well balanced army with a main battle line on a small hill of heavy African spears and Warband, a decent number of light foot, and light cav with elephants and cavalry on the right, and mediums in a reserve ambush behind a rough hill to the left. Carthage with Spanish allies countered with an enormous mass of Scutarii and some token cav support and one elephant. Masses upon masses of Spanish medium foot flooded the battlefield, hitting Hannibal's right in an unstoppable weighted flank, while holding their own right flank back a bit to give the flankers time to get in place. Casualties went high, the cheap libyan foot on the Carthage/Spanish right suffered, but ultimately Hannibal lacked the manpower to repel so much medium foot.

Division D for Determined
Barrold713 (Dacians) defeats Baldrick52 (Pictish) 40-4
I have to say I am pretty happy with my play in this one with some rare patience on my part and some help with terrain and some ZOC goodness. Looking forward to the video stream.
Thanks for the match.

Re: Second Time Control check this Sunday 8th March . . .
There is one change to be made. I have removed melm from Early Middle Ages Division A. I have received no results from him and the 3 matches he had under way were badly stalled with no turns being played for nearly 2 weeks. He will be replaced by Triarii. Details of his army choice will be available shortly.
There are a few other examples dotted about the league where players have not completed 3 matches, but I am satisfied that these players are still with us and playing their matches at a pace now that will see completion of all fixtures by April 12th.

Weekly round-up
A busy week in Division A saw Nosy_Rat (Roman) and harveylh (Roman) go joint top, both with 6 straight wins. Geffalrus (Macedonian) is just 4 points behind them in what is turning out to be a very exciting contest with the 3 main contenders still having to play each other. At the bottom either youngr (Indo-Greek) or XLegione (Antigonid) will face automaic relegation. 2 wins for Schweetness101 (Carthaginian) this week has given him a great chance of winning Division B with just matches against batesmotel (Gallic) and paulmcneil (Galatian) to play. Second-placed IMC (Samnite) cannot now take the top spot but desertedfox (Greek) has an outside chance of doing it if he beats paulmcneil and phoyle3290 (Macedonian) in his remaining matches. Division C has already been won by GDod (Indo-Greek), but Ulysisgrunt (Antigonid) has given himself every chance of taking second place after finishing with a win against Bluefin (Italian Hill Tribes). Macedonczyk (Indo-Greek) posted his fifth straight win in Division D to move closer to the leaders Swuul (Roman) and SawyerK (Pyrrhic). He needs 10 points from his last 4 games to guarantee automatic promotion.
Unbeaten runs of 3 matches or more
Geffalrus (Division A) 3 matches
harveylh (Division A) 6 matches
Nosy_Rat (Division A) 6 matches
Schweetness101 (Division B) 7 matches
Ulysisgrunt (Division C) 3 matches and finished
Macedonczyk (Division D) 5 matches
SawyerK (Division D) 3 matches
Match completion rate (45 matches in total to be played in each division)
Division A - 34 out of 45 matches completed
Division B - 25 out of 45 matches completed
Division C - 32 out of 45 matches completed
Division D - 40 out of 45 matches completed
These are very good match completion rates.
