A Roman dagger and some books
A 2,000-year-old Roman dagger, that was discovered in a trench at a burial ground in Haltern am See (north-west Germany) last year, has been restored very nicely. It is thought to have belonged to a soldier from the Roman legion fighting Germanic tribes in the 1st century.

Re: A wonderful Roman dagger is restored
Amazing how they can restore what looked like a rusty old bit of metal to something that looks like that now.
Re: A wonderful Roman dagger is restored
Indeed!
Did you see the x-ray of the find ? Impressive :

Some other specimens have also been found, such as these ones.

Re: A wonderful Roman dagger is restored
I am going to guess that was owned at some point by a general or a very rich man.
Re: A wonderful Roman dagger is restored
In any case, according to the French text mentioned in OP, the blade of this dagger shows wear marks, so its owner used it on the battlefield and it was not just a formal dagger. It was made out of several metals (bronze, brass and tin). Enamel and red glass were used for Its decoration.
